Best of both worlds, talking cameras for the hobby.

Lets list cameras similar to the one in features that would be great for the hobby.

Felix, i've always been a nikon guy (i have a D800 now) but I suggest you take a serious look at the Olympus m43 cameras if you are looking for a compact, interchangeable lens system.
The OMD EM5 was fantastic and I just sold that and upgraded to the new OMD EM1.
Awesome viewfinder, fantastic IQ and noise performance and the AF is one of the fastest in the industry.

It's all I use for my personal work now and can for sure be used for professional work as well, depending on your needs.
There is no way I'm hauling around the nikon anymore, unless I really need to (i.e. someone is paying me to, lol)

Grabbed this shot with their 60mm (120mm) the other day...

The panasonic (leica) 25mm is pretty sweet.

And speaking of Leica, you can use Leica lenses with an adapter and manually focus which is easy due to the awesome viewfinder.

Ok, I looked at the em1, it does not appear to have the features that made me post the nikon one above.
the nikon 1 listed, is waterproof, I thought that would be a great feature for in tank shots, plus the lens are interchangeable.
great for divers and people that want a compact camera and want to take nice shots of their aquariums, the lens options are cheap too, still researching macro for it though, none available from nikon yet.

tried a go pro and they suck for our tanks, white balance is horrible and no macro.

Yeah, it's weather sealed but not water proof. :)
I didn't see that feature when i quickly looked at the nikon. Cool.

I have an olympus tough tg1 that i take in the pool though! :D
Haven't really tried it on the tank... i should fool around with that sometime.

That Nikon 1 looks pretty cool. I am also a Nikon shooter, currently use a D7000. I have the old 200mm medical lens when I need serious macro, but I often have a hard time getting sharp pictures through the tank glass. I also have an Olympus Tough TG-820, which works great under water. If you saw my St. John thread in the Travel forum, those were all taken with the TG-820. Here is an example of a coral in my tank shot with the TG-820 in the tank (this works great for corals, but of course the fish all hide).

Felix, anything in particular? Or a certain ISO range?
That basket star image above was 1000 iso but i assume you are looking for higher than that and something not tank related.
I'll dig around and see if I have anything...

I was thinking candle lit or similar. I've never had to shoot above Iso 1000, but if you have impressive shots above that, i would like to see them.
street lights, etc.
this camera looks interesting, may have to look into picking one up once i Finnish my move next year.
want to put the d300s down, was thinking of picking up lenses before i invest in another body.
so i will need something to hold me down in the mean time, and this looks like a good option.
but the one i posted above does too, i'll have to check it out in the store first though.

Felix, this shot is an in-camera jpg that was iso 4000.
Not the best example but this is about all i can find. And this was the OMD EM5, which came out late 2012. The EM1 is their new flagship.

Make sure you read this...
With the special-purpose waterproof lens attached, the Camera is rated equivalent to the JIS/IEC Class 8 (IPX8) waterproof standard and the JIS/IEC Class 6 (IP6X) dustproof standard for use at a depth of up to 15m (49 ft.) for up to 60 minutes. This rating does not ensure the waterproof performance of the Camera or that the Camera will be free from damage or trouble under all conditions.

No plans to go diving, just a good option for day to day use and our reefs.

hahahaha!

I have a bunch. If you are going to get just one to start, I would get the brand new Olympus 12-40. It's a fantastic pro quality lens. And i'm shocked at how close it focuses!

I also have the 60mm macro, 75mm (fantastic for portraits), 17mm (nice little walk around lens), and the panasonic 45mm (awesome for portraits and leica-like in it's rendering).
And then I have a Leica Elmarit 90mm that I really love but of course this is manual focus only.

And remember, all of these focal lengths will be double on the EM1 since it's m4/3.
