I like Bio-Spira for starting up tanks but I still follow the cycling process.

I have read varying opinions from both side of the fence on whether it works or not and some of that is also dependent on knowing that your source for the Bio-Spira stored it properly and that it never sat out of refrigeration.

I personally think that it is more effective for freshwater tanks than it is for saltwater tanks, and maybe when I have some time in the future I may try a controlled study to see if it does or doesn't do any good.

I have used it in freshwater applications and it worked well!

Only problem I find with it being used in SW is that the tank still needs to stabilize and establish itself but the bio-spira will indeed jumpstart it.

I would not be in a hurry to start stocking after 5 days. You'll be much safer waiting several weeks to a month to let the tank develop. If you go too quick and stuff goes wrong you'll always wonder if it was really ready.

I purchased my initial setup from fishland and bio spira was part of it. I agree that it helps jump start a bacteria colony. My tank seemed to cycle very quickly. Ammonia levels were nill within a week. If I start another tank it will be part of it.

I plan on using it as well but I am still gonna let my tank stabilize for about a month before switching everything over.

I filled my 55 gal SW tank a 8 days ago with water from LSF and added Bio-spira. Then, added 60Lbs of live rock and about 10Lbs of live sand from an established tank ,on top of the 80Lbs of expensive "live" sand purchased at my LFS .

no nitrates anymore after the first week so Biospira might have helped the cycling process along, but getting rocks+ sand from an establised tank might just be as good(if you can).
I'm still going to let it cycle through a few more weeks, just to be on the safe side ( first SW tank here).

I added 1 pack of it to my new nano cube and within 2 days everything is good. But I haven't add anything yet to my tank for now I would like to let stay cycle for another week before I put something else.
