Hello Forum members. I am looking to get a pair of Black Clowns but wanted to know if there is any thing specific to their care. I've had maroon clowns before. I understand the blacks are a bit smaller so interested in a pair of these.

Thanks!

Black clownfish would either be darwin ocellaris or onyx percula with the ocellaris being the most commonly seen at the LFS. There are a number of black snowflake/phantom variants as well. Either way these are some of the easiest fish to take care of. Particulars that would be different from your maroons is if you want them to host an anemone success is usually better with a BTA than other anemone species. This said my black ocellaris hosts a large duncan coral colony so they aren't overly picky. If you want a pair I would recommend two juveniles and let them sort it out. One of the few quirks of the black ocellaris is they seem to be a bit more aggressive than other ocellaris but if you have had maroons they are no where near as aggressive.

Actually ocellaris like magnifica and gigantea, but those are a lot harder to keep than the fish itself. BTA are much easier anemones and they may be hosted by them, or they may end up on a brain coral like mine or powerhead. Would treat the anemone as a separate purchase as it isn't required. Yea, after maroons these will seem mellow.

My phantom loves his RBTA and barely leaves it. For whatever reason his colors was a light brown and white then darkened up really nice then here recently the dark brown nearly black areas are now turning to a brown color.. Do not understand he is at least close to 1 1/2 to 2 years old now.

Thanks for all the replies. Decided to go with the Ocellaris Clownfish. Funny thing about the Maroons is my first pair of Gold Stripes were very peaceful. I never once saw them bother the other fish even when they laid eggs.
