Don't poison your tank. If the Polyps go onto a rock and you do not want them on there. What I do is just take the rock out and let it dry out for a few weeks. Polyps are the weeds of the ocean.

Unfortunately drying out this particular rock is not an option. It has 4 different zoa colonies on it as well as some spongeode and a mushroom colony.

The other rock being over taken by bcp I'm thinking of just overturning and crossing my fingers that I can just smother it in the substrate.

Oh man those things are the devil. I ended having to nuke all my rocks to get rid of them. I know that’s not an option for you with the coral on them tho....

Yeah...not really an option for me.

Overturning and smothering can work. Polyps can be toxic and may release toxins in the water. If there are a lots and lots it might possibly toxify the air you and others in your home breathe. There was a family a few years ago in Quebec!!! who had to get out of their home. They had insurance pay for a professional home fumigation because of polyps gone bad. I have killed stuff off by just throwing it outside for a month or so where there is no chance of human or pet contact.

I'd be thoughtful and cautious in how you handle the problem. I've watched SPS encrust over blue clove polyps lots of times, but I have little/no experience with zoas.

I wouldn't put BCP in my new tank, but only because they are sort of monolithic - eventually no bare rock will be exposed, which is a little weird.

For those with barebottom tanks, is it possible that it will take over the glass? I wonder if I should part with the coral.

Thoughtful and cautious for sure!

I had one little patch about the size of a dime come in on a piece of LR I picked up. At the time I thought they were very nice looking and I had read that they were relatively safe around corals and wouldnt kill so I didn't pay too much mind to it. Well, silly me for not keeping a closer eye on them. It took me over a year to grow out my zoa garden, it has taken the cloves 3 months to move in and begin to overtake them.

Day two of trying to elminate blue clove polyps with FIsh Bendazole (Fenbendazole) Dose mix was 250mg into 3.78 liter of fresh salt water mix.
Dosage used was 12 fluid ozes from the 3.78 liters of a fresh salt mix (1oze for 2 gallons) I.e. For a 88 liter reef system.
No side effects at this time. Snails removed as a precaution. Sexy shrimps could not be caught but look ok at this time. I believe I may have to up the doze as the blue clove polpys are not dying off as other have spoken about with their elimination of these polpys. However I squeezed a few polpys and they seem to excret a brown fluid. Time will tell. On a side note I'm hoping the treatment would have killed off some worms that seem to be eating into my hard corals.

Thought I'd restart this conversation and check in to see what the end result was? I never tried the medication and am kind of regretting dragging my feet. The BCP are starting to irritate some of my encrusting sps and have actually started to affect one of my encrusting montis (the edges have died back about 1/2" inch. My zoa rock is almost 90% bcp now :-(

From my testing, lasers work extremely well on BCP. I'm sure you'd like to take care of the problem without lasers, but they are a legitimate option.
I've used the laser for about 5 minutes straight in a tank and didn't notice any adverse effects.
Feel free to borrow my laser if you decide to go that route.

How long has it been since you did this? Have you noticed any popping up in other areas of your tank? Did it require more than one day of zapping?

I only spot-tested the laser on BCP. I held the laser on a single point and burned for about 10-15 seconds then stopped. The next day there was a bald spot on the rock.
It's been about 2 weeks i think.
No sign of any new growth in other areas of the tank.

Was considering puting each rock in a seperate tub and scrubbing the heck out of it with a tooth brush hoping to scrape it off!

@ITreefer I think I may give that lazer of yours a shot!

I cant! One rock has a sps and zoa colony on it. Another has a monti and shroom colony on it and well, the third I can probably do that to if I peel the zoa mat off it it [emoji848]
