I'd like to get opinions from other Marshians about where the perimeter glass should sit when building an aquarium.

1) Perimeter glass sitting on bottom glass pane
2) Perimeter glass butting up to edges of bottom pane

Like most topics, there's a lot of debate here and Google searches yield a lot of results for both methods.

What method is best in your opinion?

I decided on the build where the perimeter glass is sitting on top of the bottom glass. Silicone work could use some improvement, but overall not bad. 24x16x8

Picked up a lettuce nudibranch from Fish & pets on a whim. It's been munching on hair algae since it was introduced.

You did it the correct way, if I remember correctly. At least that’s how I construct with acrylic. That way the seam is taking shear force. That’s the stronger of the two types of bonds.

Looks solid.

What was the all in cost? Any pics of the process?
Cost was about $110 total between the custom cut glass, silicone, and spray paint.
Sorry, no pics. Didn't know how it was going to turn out. Next time I definitely will take some pictures.

Yeah, after all the research I did it did seem to be the stronger method. Probably overkill for such a small tank though.
