It depends on the Petco. The store on 1960 and Eldridge has some of the best looking tanks (aside from a little cyano) I have seen even comparing to some of the LFS I have been in over the years. The dpt manager is well on her way to getting her Marine Biology degree so she actually cares and does things right. I am in there at least once per week and all the stock they have look happy, healthy and have never seen any signs of ICK or external parasites.

poor Savage...he's aggressive little sucker of course he will make it. Give it a good fresh water dip just to ease the itchiness.

I bought some tiny blue tangs from OLA about six months ago and i was worried about my fish fish messing with them...all doing great and none of the fish showed any aggression not even the giant sohal.

Will Savage make it?!! You guys will find out on the next update if you tune in. He’s infested with ICH and Velvet.

While in Pearland Petco a while back, I struck up a conversation with the girl working in the fish section. She knew nothing and had just been thrown into that position. When she found out I knew about saltwater, she had a million questions.

She said that Petco doesn't train their fish people, and the ones who are ambitious enough to learn on their own end up going to a LFS where they can make more money. Its a never ending cycle with them.

I have to visit this store. You do know that Petco isn’t allowed to use Copper, Formalin, Praziquantel, Chloroquine Phosphate, etc.

They can only do what upper management allows, so it’s not really their fault. :)

Yeah, it’s not really their fault. All the employees have their hands tied.

I’ve never seen a Petco or any LFS in town without at least a few or multiple fish suffering with parasites.

It’s impossible to keep it out when you’re dealing with volume for profit. Unless you’re set up like Live Aquaria. I even had Velvet from them before. Bought a batch of fish that went into sterile dry QT’s. 3 weeks later....boom!

I’ll meet you up there one day and point out at least 2-3 parasites in different stages guaranteed. :)
Haha yeah I'm sure there are most of the time, but I didn't buy anything so I wasn't looking close enough to ensure.

Where are you anyways? iirc I think you are probably the closest to me? I'm in Westpark

Looks like he's doing a lot better. Good job!

After bleach do you ever soak it with Prime or some other dechlorinator?

Edit: Yeah I'm in LC too, to the far west side of 518 near where it turns into friendswood.

Yeah, he's doing better.

No, I just rinse very well and then let it completely air dry or wipe them down with a clean towel. Air drying is better.

While we're on topic with prime which is an ammonia reducer. It's good to know that you should never use it if you're running ionic copper and really any copper IMO. It will make a .5 dose turn into 5!! So if you ever have ammonia issues...control with a water change.

Ya every time you introduce something in your tank you are playing russian roulet with your other fish/corals unfortunately. I have been lucky I just stay clear from stores that obviously do not take awesome care of their aquariums. I basicly just stick with marine aquarium stores. good luck

I went in the Lake Jackson store yesterday. I was very upset at the way the fish and tanks looked. Half of the tanks had "Under Observation" above them. Now I understand a little about why the fish are always sick at Petco.

Only twice was I upset about the care marine life was getting. First time was in Brantford. I was so upset I complained to the better business bureau. Only second time I have ever done that I was that upset. Another time was on my Houston trip. Highway to Galveston oh Galveston. The Wallmart on the west side and told you guys about it on my visiting Houston Thread. I hope they get what they deserve.
