I caught this freshwater fish in a ditch while trying to catch fish for my backyard pond. It almost resembles a blenny species that you'd find in the saltwater. If you have any ideas as to what it could be let me know! Thank you 20230222_151541.jpg 20230222_151556.jpg

Baby bass?
Definitely not a bass or a commonly caught species. I'm fairly well versed with the local saltwater and freshwater fish but this has me stumped. I caught another of this species last month that was only about an inch long aswell. Snapchat-1748818244.jpg

That's it! I appreciate the info and it's interesting that it can live in both fresh and saltwater. The larger one that we caught today was actually quite pretty.
I used to catch them near the LA/MS border. Had 3 of them in a tank for a long time, at one point they spooked and jumped out. One was all but crunchy on the ground but I saw a gill slightly move, threw it back in the water and ended up being fine. Thought that was crazy. This pic is actually mine from over a decade ago.

Edit: keep an eye out for other cool gobies an areas that these are found. Lyre gobies are really cool. You can also drag the bottom with a net and get small flounder (hog chokers) that tolerate salt and fresh pretty well.

My first marine tank was a Galveston Bay biotheme: green mollies from salt water marshes and Curly Que anemone & peppermint shrimp from jetties.

I just did acclimate over 24 hours some mollies into 30G mixed garden lagoon
