Chibi's 14g BioCube with no plans for now. (1 Viewer)

Hey everyone, been reading up on these forums lately, very knowledgeable group of people here.

I have been getting into the SW hobby since early December, I know its not long but let em assure you that with my time off of school I have been doing nothing but reading internet articles/forums about the different aspects. Most nights Im up till 3am drinking some beers and taking notes.

I currently have a 46g BF that I started a few weeks back. It'll be post in another forum in a min.


I recently picked up a 14g BioCube, brand new still in the box for $80 off craigslist. My initial thoughts were to start cycling it and turn it into a frag tank as I learn more about corals and propagation. I pictured the little tank just having some LR, frags, cuc, and maybe a fish for bioload in the display and mods done to the chambers in the back. Ideally I would think I would want to do it BB but then I was reading some corals have problems with it.


Anyways, after that wall of text. I would like to hear what your thoughts on it are. Currently everything is stock and it has alil aquaclear 2000 PH in it with a 50w stealth heater. Using the tank to seed some 'dead' rock I have right now.

Also, my GF's dad run a marble and granite company and has offered to build a stand for it. Ive started drawing on but wanted to ask, what dimensions should I allot down below for future equipment? If you could make your own dream stand, how would you modify the basic stand?

Alright, well I still havent done anything with this set up besides keep the dead rock and LR running in there. Im seeing some growth on all rocks so I think that has served its purpose for now.

Im trying to figure out what to do with the thing. It is still all stock -bio balls. I plan to do a DIY fuge with chaeto and some other type of filter media in chamber 2.

Without having to do mods to lights etc what would any of you recommend doing with it? I could use it as a QT tank for some time as I add more coral/fish but if I did that would I take out the current filter piece in there now and just throw in a Bio Sponge from my main tank?

If not used as a QT have you seen anything nice that people have done with it stock? It will be stock until I have my main tank most of the way stocked with fish/coral bc of $

Sell it to me, and then go buy stuff to put in your 46, that cool? Ill just give you a little extra on top. Or a frag or something. Lemme know...

such a fun deal! I have a feeling that I'm gonna be buying tanks all the time when I don't need more. They are so fun! I love the idea of a frag tank, but i don't know if i'd use a bio cube. I would just set up another little mini reef. I can't remember what type of lights are on biocubes...probably PC which limits you a little, but you could still have a cool little zoa garden or a ric garden. I'd say don't waste it on a QT tank.

bio balls and all that aren't really useful if you have live rock. I have noticed that chemi-pure elite does awesome things in my little nano. Water stays super clear and pH is always perfect and keeps phosphates away!

I actually got a 14g Biocube the other day, so we gotta keep each other posted, I have already took the bioballs out, next im gonna mod the K nano, I bought it and the ballast was out but getting it tomorrow, got a good deal.

I think im just gonna put my platinums in there, gettin tired of the blue devil damsel....

What have you done?

I forgot, im thinking about doin a mod to the lights, add an extra bulb in there. Its as much as I paid for the tank, so dont know if its worth it....

Still just running it with some LR in there.

I plan to cut the wall between chamber 1 & 2. Add a media box to chamber 2 for chaeto and filter floss. Until I can do a lighting mod I will prob leave it as a FOWLR. Might upgrade the return pump also.

There are a couple mods in that link that are cool, check it out. You gonna put LR in the back or charcoal, filter floss and that stuff?
