Does anyone have any info on our city water and chloramine is used to treat? I’m having unexplained coral deaths and trying to do process of elimination. If so are you guys using chloramine filters on your RO/DI systems?

Get a water test done. I think the club has test kits for $18 bucks or something like that. Its cheaper than losing corals.

I do one at least twice a year just because.

I looked into this when buying my Spectrapure RODI. I'm using the 6 stage model.

Houston city water system uses Chlorimines for water treatment. Other areas around the city, inside Harris County, also use the city water system.

Here's a good link.

Thanks for the info. I’m assuming you use the carbon blocks with your rodi system. How often do you change them out? What’s a good indicator that it’s time to swap them out?

I change mine when I change my sediment filter. But the true test is to take the line loose after the carbon but before the RO membrane and test the water with a chlorine test kit. That's a bit of a pain for me so I just change it as mentioned. I guess I could put a T valve in there to make it easier. But...that is how you have to do it. Chlorine is what trashes your RO membrane, which then puts greater strain on your DI resin.
