I have a 75g that currently has one clown, one flameback angel, and one chromis. I have lost a few fish over the last year or so, for a variety of reasons, and would like to add some now. I am wondering if adding a couple of small clownfish would create problems with the existing clown. He is at least 5 years old. I've had this tank for just over 2 years, but he was original to the tank. When I got it, he was the sole survivor. I do have a RBTA that has recently split, and looks like it may split again.

Any thoughts?

Personally, I would suggest adding a single clown.
You probably wouldn't have issues for a while, but when they start figuring out their heirarchy one is likely to end up third wheel dead.
Thanks for the advice. I will go with one clown, and hold my breath.

I agree with ITreefer. You can add another clown but I would only add one and make sure it is significantly smaller than the one you have. If the one you have has already changed to female, and the new one has already changed to female, one will most likely kill the other.

I have 3 clowns in my nem tank but all three were added when they were little (years ago). Now I have one big fat female, a mid sized male, and a tiny one that was never allowed to change into anything. That's the way it works with clowns.

If you add another clown, I would suggest a breeder/acclimation box of some sort to help introduce them. Be ready to separate if things go really south. Some aggression is to be expected but if the new one stops eating/gets badly injured make sure you have a plan (qt tank, breeder box, sump, etc)
