For those considering a mixing station or other welded plastic needs, I found your man. At 59n and 8n on the north side, Kenny Evans (ProTank) kept the doors open late to fill my order of 2 tanks at 75 gallons each.

He then gave my wife and I a tour of the welding and extrusion facility to give us an idea what all he can do for the reefer facility. He is going to design a custom fresh water top off tank for less than $100 for me. He can also plastic weld brackets and clamps for device hanging needs.
He is a marine biologist and therefore gives a discount if you mention aquariums. Give him a shot.

Below are som of his product line.

Just remember…if at all possible get a tank that has a large lid to make maintenance easy. They are harder to find.

Man I need a new topoff tank. Not paying $3-400 for a custom acrylic “box.” 17g worth of topoff ain’t cutting it. Refilling very 7-9 days.
75 gal tanks were $200 each so a 40 gallon rectangle with custom size would likely be less than that. You should hit him up and tell him Al Supak sent you.

Kenny and Protank in general are by far the best you can get. They’re the cheapest and sell great products. I’ve purchased a dozen different water vats from them and I will continue to do so.

I ran into one of those water tank companies here in Houston one day driving down the Hwy. I wonder if it was Protank? Are they off a main Hwy? I remember you could see the property full of tanks pretty easy.

For a small ATO container, I've found that a cheap plastic trash can (from Walmart, HD, Lowes, etc) works well as they are skinny enough to fit inside my stand.
*Not trying to undermine using Protanks for custom stuff... As Cody said, they are a great company :)

I use a 20g glass aquarium for an auto topoff because it was cheap and space is not really an issue for me. One of these days I will have to get a bigger sump and will consider something different for an ATO.
This is exactly what I do. You can pick up tanks for super cheap/free on here and facebook, just have to wait for them to happen. Might even find one that fits your space if you wait long enough lol.

@alstang1
how much were those water tanks? I just got a quote for (2) 55 gallon tanks and the price kinda surprised me a bit.

Most small trash cans aren’t NSF. Which is why people use brutes and other reservoirs.

Many are NSF and the ones I use are... It's easy to look for the symbols on the bottom of the can and beats paying hundreds for a 5 gallon container.

Can any plastic container do or does it have to meet certain criteria to be aquarium safe? I increased my hang on the back filters capacity a couple of months ago by using a Walmart plastic garbage bin. I drilled a few holes on the bottom to help prevent debris buildup. Filled it with lava rock and burried the filter intake nozzle inside it.

Needs to be certain types, which I highly doubt the walmart can is. Best is high-density polyethylene.

Also, I wouldn't use lava rock. A lot comes out of the ground with it and it will slowly poison your tank. Tried to use a bunch as a filter in my 75g display a few years back and Iron and copper went through the roof after a while, among other things, and slowly killed the sps in the tank. Only certain rock should be used, lava rock is not inert sadly.

I also purchased my top-off and water change tanks from ProTank! I will advise to give them a fill outside first, the bulk head they installed for me on one of the tanks had a very small leak and I ended up swapping out the bulkhead for a different one (also no harm in giving anything that will be used for a fish tank a rinse).
