DIY - Small Air driven Bio-Filter (1 Viewer)

I made a small 1.5 liter bio-filter.
Here are the pictures.

Materials:
Dollar Tree Water gun for riser tube
Dollar Tree1/5 liter bottled water
Dollar Tree Dish Scrubbie
Plastic craft mesh (I hade it from my mom's stuff)
Crusted Oyster Shell
Lava Rocks
Chaeto Macroalgae
Air-stone & hose

I need to finish mixing salt and fill the tank. I lowered that water to rescape the tank.
I was doing a partial water change also.

Is this filter operating on the same principle as a sponge filter? The air stone is creating a column of low pressure which causes water to flow through the filter?

Yes, but I made a very long riser tube to increase the flow. The tubes on sponge filter I think are made way too short.
It pulls tank water through the macroalgae, the lava rock, through the crushed oyster shell, then through the scrubby.
I used the scrubby to hold the screen under the oyster shell to hold it up creating a space similar to an under gravel filter allowing flow through everything.
I need to look at it to see just how much water flow I have.

A little early to tell. I need to get a little more light to the chaeto I think.
I will try to see how much flow is coming out of the riser tube.
I seems to be functioning as planned though.
