Over the past two years, the only pumps i had die on me were on wave action, the rest were slow ramp up and down(sine wave). Could this be a reason for shorter lifespan of pumps or just coincidence?
In tank powerheads such as gyres,Vortechs, and Jebaos. I set up a koralia to pulse as well and that died on me too. So to answer your question, DC wavemakers and AC pumps on wave timer thingies
Any kind of motor typically wears out slowly due to stopping/starting over time. Seems logical to me that a pump on wave mode would wear out quicker than one on a steady or sine setting.
That being said, I've had 2 PP4's on wave mode for about 2.5 years and still going strong.
the gyre pumps I have ramp up and then down - using about 2 years now. Most of the vortechs MP10's I have just run reef crest (in the past). Only had one dry side die in five years. Wet side I have replaced twice I think. -- well one replacement and then purchased a second and swap the "spare" into service when I'm cleaning one of them.
