Hey, my calcium, magnesium, and alk are all a little on the low side. All corals look great, A few lps and zoas. I was hoping the 20 percent weekly water changes would keep levels up but I guess not. 29 gallon tank no skimmer. Have a dosing pump on the way and was wondering what are you guys using? Brs 2 part the way to go? Thanks!

I'm a big fan of the 2-part from BRS and its tried and true and has very easy instructions for calculating amounts to dose based on your parameters.

I’m a fan or BRS 2part as well. If you’re willing to put in the effort you can save some money with diy approaches also.

I am using BRS now too. But I also supplements occasional red sea coral color program (A, B, C, D) for other trace elements.

So if your corals are looking great, why do you want to change anything? Dosing pump might be overkill for a 29 gal. IMO, better to spend your $$ on a skimmer.

If you want something that is more simple and lower maintenance you could dose amounts of saturated kalkwasser or calcium hydroxide solution. The benefits include ease of maintenance, calcium and alkalinity in one shot, and harder to overdose, and increases pH. Disadvantages are that your pump may clog if not cleaned, and once you have a lot of acropora and sps you may outgrow it, but for a 29g, it really hits home! Plus you save money by buying only one pump. I do not recomend mixing it with topoff because the BRS dosers are VERY slow and safe, rather than an ATO which can fail and badly hurt the tank. Good luck! Happy Reefing!

Assuming he is using a decent salt, with a 20% weekly water change there a very little chance that his trace elements are critically low. He would have to have that tank stocked to the brim with sps.

I agree with Steve. If your corals are looking good and your parameters are stable, then why change things up? They have told you what they like, so keep giving them that.

I think some lost track of the OP's original intent. He's only looking to supplement alk, Ca, and Mg but realized his water changes weren't keeping up anymore so he was going to have to supplement. He bought dosers to do that and was just asking what brand/type people recommended.

He wasn't trying to shake things up in the tank, just trying to keep up with supplementing foundation elements. Not looking for miracle additives or dosing other types of trace elements... Just the basic foundation elements.
