Hello. I am currently finishing my canopy and have a quick question for you electricians out there. I am going to be wiring up some workhorse 7 ballasts and the power cords that I purchased only have the green center ground wire colored. Both other wires are insulated with grey plastic. So my question is which side of the plug receptacle is hot (red) and which side will be negative (black) for the ballast. If you are looking at the outlet on the wall which side of the ground "hole" is positive or red. Thanks guys.

Your outlet have three plug. A circle which is ground and two rectange (one short and one long). The short (right) is hot and long (left) is common.

I am looking for an electrician, anyone on the site one?

I got a quote to do some work for $85, looking for someone that might be willing to do the work for a frag and some beer or something.

Of course, you'd probably have to see what I want done before you could agree to do the work. Anyone that does electrical work and lives in north houston area, send me a PM.

Bill,

$85? That's little more than a house-call in my neighborhood. What is it that you want done? If they are only charging $85 it can't be that difficult.

What I'm having done, is a dedicated breaker switch put in for my 90 gallon tank.

My breaker box is on the outside wall (brick) and I want the power outlet put on the inside wall directly behind the breaker box.

So a new breaker switch needs to be added and an outlet attached to it.
I was going to try myself, but I really don't want to spend all day doing it while at the same time, losing my temper, cutting myself, and then having to pray it works.
I'd rather just pay someone else to do it.

At the risk of completely hijacking this thread  (I think the original question was answered, however)...

Bill,

If that $85 quote was parts and labor, you can't beat that price. That said, if you weren't in South Dallas, I'd offer to come do it for a beer and a frag. :)
