The response to Gregg’s suggestion is god no. That has to be one of the most thankless, hard jobs I have ever had.
How thankless is it? I was on the BOD 2010 (or 2011 or somewhere around there it was brief). We had a meeting that someone set on a Saturday at 8:00am. I hauled my butt all the way across town to some crappy Denny’s and after discussing procedural nothing of substance for 2 hours, had to pick up my own meal tab because “members” where too sensitive about expenses and that was pretty much it for me (I found out later that sometime after that someone absconded with a large sun of cash so that’s probably why I had to buy my own meal). There needs to be a solid budget that covers these types of reasonable expenses for people who donate their time and money for the benefit of all. No, I’m not suggesting future meetings will be at Vic n Anthony’s but necessary quarterly meetings should be included in the annual budget.
So, let me be clear, I have done nothing but support this club and the BOD at every opportunity. My position is and has always been that everyone who hangs out here should be a member if for no other reason than the benefit you get from direct access to local resources whether it’s in the marketplace, highly skilled and dedicated reefers with unmatched knowledge etc. etc. etc… as a matter of fact, every suggestion I have made has been to try and increase the value of being a member to increase membership rolls. In the past it has always been why buy the cow if you can drink the milk for free kind of approach. I find it unfathomable that people spend thousands of dollar on reefing but hesitate to drop $30 on such a readily available, valuable resource. It pays for itself with one mistake avoided, one frag from the market place or one meet.
Anyways, what is happening here is rather daunting. My post that was taken down was a rational discussion, no swearing, no bashing. As a matter of fact, I believe the general take away was that we need to see each other as neighbors with different views instead of enemies. Rick is a pretty good friend to me and the people I have had interactions here are all pretty solid people. Our views may not align but “that setup is pretty impressive. How do you get those colors?” Is where we hit common ground. That someone had a problem with that post but this one is perfectly fine with the support (or lack of action) of several BOD members, is.. concerning.
That being said, if you want to make me a mod, I will be glad to assist in whatever way I can.
