So I'm really curious on the elos vs the Red Sea tanks but what are the pros and cons to them and I know the price points are different and im looking at the 150gal + size want to end up with 200-250 gallons total in the system. What is your opinion between the two of them? Thank you

lucas. Happy reefing!

I would have gotten a red sea reefer most likely, but don't like their narrow dims.
So went with the Elos 120XL instead, for the deeper dimension. Approx 47x31x19h.

I don't have experience with an ELOS, but love my RedSea Reefer. It's going to be hard to beat for the price. However, RedSea doesn't make one yet that is over 200gal total volume. The largest model out now is the 750XXL which is 160gal tank, 200gal total volume. I like that the new XXL sizes include refugium space in the sump. My 350 is kinda cramped and I had to make the included ATO into a refugium, but it's tiny (~3g).

Check out YouTube. I threw up a few quick vids of my new Red Sea reefer xxl 750. Newly released.
Yea I did I subbed to u! It's a great tank! But that fact that the actual tank volume on the elos 200 system is actually 200+ gal my dad would pay for that option cause I'm gonna need that huge tank feel for what I had in mind! To stock it with!

I got the Reefer 450 specifically for the narrow dimension to fit in a certain spot. I've been setting it up and doing some modifications over the past couple weeks. I'll set up a build thread soon, but overall I'm very impressed with the system (especially the glass). The only real downside I see is the bulky center overflow. Having the separate cabinet to store all my electronics in the stand is a big plus.

Look we want to to go big as possible but my dad said not tank bigger than 250 gal. So ok I want some thing aleast 160 gal for the display! So Red Sea and elos are my two top options for new and know manufactured tanks. And if I go Red Sea it will be the 750xxl. But we are still in the planning stage!

You're obviously not in a rush and doing your research so why not just have a tank and stand custom built by Planet Aquariums through FJW or OceanLife or other LFS/sponsor?
Will be much cheaper than Elos and be the exact dims you want. You could also go ReefSavvy but that will take like a year instead of several weeks.
Personally, I was tired of waiting for custom tanks to be built and I was severely downgrading from my previous tank when we moved to a smaller house.
The only reason I was willing to go Elos was because I had the cash from the sale of the old, much larger system. And i just wanted something off the shelf this time.
Still had a custom sump built though.
You'll have so much cash leftover to spend on the best equipment, and still be ahead.

O yea i forgot about them I'll tell my dad and see what he says. But if I email them my dimensions I want will they respond with the price? Will I get a better price via ocean life or just order from planet aquariums?

Have them build a steel stand while you're at it. I got a good deal on mine so going with a custom would have been more. Though a 84" x 32" x 28" would have been nice.

You guys are comparing a Ferrari to a ford

Just the bottom panel of Elos is 2 to 3 sheets of compressed glass and special silicon made only by Elos. The cost is higher but the Elos will last decades if cared for properly.

The glass clarity is another luxurious option on Elos. It's super clear glass.

I had the 160XL (200/g) and it was one sweet tank and regret selling it.

Here's a pic of bottom panel of my 160XL-

I think you are over hyping that just a little bit. Every large tank manufacturer uses multi layered bottoms. I don't know of any that just have a single piece of glass.

"Super clear glass" = starphire glass which everyone offers.

"Special silicone" - that's marketing speak at its finest right there.

The only difference between makers is some go with the minimum spec materials that they can like the thinnest possible glass which Elos doesn't do obviously. Then there is the manufacturers assembly skill. How well can they lay a seam without air bubbles and how clean are the seems aesthetically.

If you want to argue that they can assemble a better tank then I'll entertain that argument but the materials are basically the same for any quality manufacturer.
