I normally just use my chiseled abs. Cuts right through anything. I go through a lot of shirts so I try to go shirtless to save money.

That or I think I got some generic pair off of Amazon. They rust up, but once they get wet, they cut just fine.

Would love to find some of these "quality" ones that don't rust. Somehow the last 3 sets I've purchased, even the "stainless" ones have all rusted... amazing.
Stainless isn't impervious to rust, just takes longer. If you immediately rinse in freshwater (preferably RO since chlorine isn't good either) and lightly scrub the hinge area, then dry completely, they should last quite a while.

Look for surgical grade. 304 Stainless. It will never rust.
It will if submerged in saltwater or not rinsed properly... It takes longer, but is still not rust proof.
(Just emphasizing my advice to rinse your tools well :) )

I doubt one could find a titanium tool that is cost effective. Ti and SS like 304 or 316L are all corrosion resitstant. Ti is usually deployed when SS would be too heavy (hence numerous aviation applications) but not because one is more resistant to oxidation corrosion than the other.

It is absolutely correct that you should rinse your aquarium items with fresh Ro/DI water after use as the salt does indeed attack the chemical structure of the metals surface That’s being said, imagining a Rolex showing signs of oxidation because of too much saltwater exposure is highly unlikely if not impossible. High quality SS will not rust and maintain its chemical structure for a very long time.

It should be noted that oxidation (rust) is only one of the many things that these materials are resistant to. Caustic and/or high pressure conditions require SS or other exotic materials usually with a heavy nickel and chromium content. when weight becomes an issue the extra cost of titanium becomes justified. So material selection may have nothing to do with rust resistance but more so resistance to a specific caustic environment.

hope that helps a little

Yea so access to high quality surgical instruments is another story altogether. I see 410 and 420 SS which is probably a dubious designation coming from China or Pakistan. I am also pretty certain that a quality bone cutting tool will set you back a couple hundred bucks. I can try to contact a medical supply vendor and search around a little to see why I can find out since I am in the hunt too. Honestly, I have even less of an idea where you would find something like that from titanium though. It would have to cast and then machined or machined from a block. Either way.. much more than a couple hundred bucks.

Yeah just buy your cheap ones and replace them when needed.

One of my X-Girlfriends mother always had knifes that looked great. No rust ever even after several years. I said...I need those knifes mine always rust! She told me they were Rachel Ray brand. Lol. So I went and bought them. Mine rusted within 1 year. I said WTH. She says...do you DRY your knifes off before you store them?

Ahhhhhh....heh! Yeah...lesson learned. I try to do that with my reef tools now. :)

You know, when my wife and I got our house, my brother bought me a nice set of German knives. Nice knives are something that I never thought to get, but you can’t go back once get some!

Also, it’s tough for our reef tools because of the saltwater. No way around that. And I’m not going to dry the bone cutters after every use and I accept that haha
