Hey guys I’m not sure what’s going on with my fish. 2-2-19 I put all my fish plus a royal gramma, died Friday a melenarus wrasse died Saturday night and a Atlantic blue tang who is swimming very oddly and started showing spots this morning, Ich was in the QT but there was never an out break. I lowered the salinity from 25 ppt to 11ppt over a week and Saturday night it went from 13 ish to 11ppt that’s when i noticed the clown the hawkfish the two Green Chromis and the kleini butterfly started acting odd, not swimming around or eating. The bi color angel and the blue throat trigger were not, still not effected. I raised the ppt up Sunday to 13ppt this morning. Any ideas on what to do? There is a little ammonia had a spike but it never rose above .50 I used prime. The spike was last week.
I have a video not sure how to upload it thought CD43FEA1-113A-4416-A18B-001DC26C60CB.png 00959426-474F-4184-937B-A158F1E45A49.png 46292AD4-157C-457D-8382-185009E2C15D.png 4AC5FCC1-E28D-4EA9-B359-E8BBBC1804F6.png C157029A-D6B6-4383-B802-C01CE60E936D.jpeg 932C9B22-245F-481C-8A61-DF80FC1F4D9F.jpeg

Yes, sort of. I added three fish from LiveAquaria on the first. Then added the rest of my fish and started lowering the salinity on the 2nd I think. All of the fish but the gramma seemed to be doing good. I never noticed any spots until this morning. And the tang is the only one showing them.

Are you doing hypo because of an ich outbreak? Why not raise the salinity back to normal and medicate using copper or CP? Most likely the hypo is stressing the fish.

I thought hypo was the least stressful for the fish, and copper being stressful
I did raise it back up some to 12-13ppt they seemed happy before at that level. I’m just worried it’s something bad like velvet or brook.

If it was velvet or brook, most likely they'd already be dead with no medication. I would really look into Chloroquine Phosphate. You can run your SG at 1.025 and shouldn't be too stressful on the fish. I run all of my new arrivals through it and haven't had any problems. It could also be the ammonia that is causing them to be lethargic. Ammonia poisoning is no joke for them. I'm just not confident hypo alone is enough.

When I got home the tang and little clown were stuck to the power head. Both were still breathing, the clowns white stripes are bronze in color with a faint white outline. Can’t get a pic to show it. I noticed that the tang also has a bronze look around his gills, it kinda glimmers in the light. I did a fresh water dip and added them to qt with Copper. And started a drip to raise salinity, just in case.
Thanks for the info I’ll get some of that Chloroquine Phosphate ASAP just in case.

From what I understand hypo salinity has a lot of benefits, one is higher oxygen levels. I read that you need to bring the levels back up slowly just a couple points a day. But I’m pretty new to fish diseases, other than ich. There’s a video on youtube from reef2reef that explains it some.

Moody Gardens uses hyposalinity/hypersalinity as a method in the treatment of ich. You could try to ping @Seaturtle and see what he has to offer on the subject.
