I did just that, Ty. [emoji16] I mounted the gyres in the back. They kind of stand out though... don’t know if I will be able to handle looking at them there, but the flow is way better now!

I did some cable cleanup tonight. It’s not magazine cover worthy, but suits me fine. I did a quick video on it. It doesn’t look like much, but it is a start.

I also have three fish in QT right now. A carpenter wrasse, a blue flasher wrasse and a normal foxface. I added a powder brown and hippo to the display recently, too.

Playing catch-up, really. I actually thought that with this “work from home” stuff going on that I’d have more free time..... nope [emoji107]

Quick pic of one of the wrasses in QT.

Have a good night all!

The fun part, wire management. At least you’ve got some room to play with with your stand design.

I missed which UV that was you removed?

Indeed. :) I do have a lot of wiggle room for what I'm trying to accomplish.

The UV that I'm running/moving is a Pentair 40w Smart UV that is listed here:

I'm moving it to mount it vertically vs. horizontally. Also, it's freeing up tons of space under my tank.

I'll post a pic when I finally get it reinstalled. A vertical install makes it more efficient because the air pocket won't be around the bulb anymore.

Considering a 90w myself. But, the Red Sea tanks have zero space much less ventilation in the sump area. That, and been watching the BRS vids on how to plumb one properly usually involves Drawing from the display which is hard for me. There’s so much humidity beneath my stand a hinge just broke today! So, a couple of new updates...

My CUC is doing a pretty good job of controlling the growth of this invasive hair algae, but it’s not quite enough. I started doing a lot of research on methods of control, and basically studied everything known to man on getting this under control before it becomes more than I can stand looking at. There are several options; but the ones that stood out the most were many water changes, dosing vodka, hiking up the biopellet reactor, adding more CUC, and an algae turf scrubber. After reading a lot on several sites (a lot in Europe) and talking to a bunch of friends, I’ve decided to try something I’ve never used before... a turf scrubber. It should be here on Thursday. I got it from BRS. It’s a CWS setup, I believe. I was considering the Santa Monica setup, but for no particular reason chose the CWS. I’m actually pretty excited about this because this will increases my copapod population exponentially. I want to keep dragonettes. A few if possible [emoji16]

Also, my stupid fish in quarantine are giving “me” stress! I think I need to dose myself for ich! Last night, my dumb baby foxface was stuck in the power head. I got him out of there, and he was floating around like a leaf in the wind in there. I went to grab a hospital/breeder box to hang on the side of the QT, (highly recommended if you don’t have one) and came back to the foxface being HANDLED by the emerald [emoji886]!!! [emoji33] That crab is no more... Actually, he’s in a bucket with a little water in it. This is the little crab that was eating my coral, so I wouldn’t even feel comfortable giving it away.... Little bastose! (/Tagalog)

I quickly got the little tank up and running and carefully placed the foxface in there. I was about to give up on him... just being honest... he was virtually lifeless, showing subtle signs of life through one lowly fin slightly waving at me. His side had impressions of my powerhead on it, and it looked really bleak. I decided to keep him in the box overnight anyway. Glad I did, as he seems a little better today. He had eaten a few TDO pellets, but he is still on his side. We’ll see how this pans out... Right now, he’s on his side, but rights himself from time to time.

Rubbing more salt on the wound, my flashers were at each other’s throats this morning, too! (Good God...). They are in the main tank now. The Carpenter looks great (making friends), but the Blue is still hiding under a rock. Maybe more space will chill them out a bit.

On a good note, my Melanarus showed up yesterday! Woooo! He ate some LRS and went back to the sand after lights out. He’s the only one in the actual quarantine tank now.

Today is water change day for me, too. I actually got two 44g Brutes yesterday so that I can hit “about” 15% today. I’ve always used the smaller, 32g Brutes in the past. I’m also going to do a small water change on the QT with old water from the big tank.

Bittersweet past couple of days... I need a drink

A seahare will do a good job of getting rid of the hair algae.

Understood, but I've never had any luck with them. I have used them on smaller systems, then had to gift them out due to running out of food for the ugly buggers. :)
Looking for a permanent solution. May even stop running all other means of filtration, after the ATS seeds-up.

Any updates?

A few! Thanks for reminding me. :)

1. Removing sump and putting my old one back in. The Marine Depot/Trigger sump has a lot of great features, but it's just too small for my tank. Back to the drawing board. I'll likely have to do a custom one.

2. Had a flatworm population starting to build up. It was bad enough that after two days, most of the places where the glass meets were covered with them. Thousands, perhaps. This is my fault as I got too anxious when shutting down the last tank, and I wanted to save the coral that was already encrusted to the rocks in there. So, I added 10 blue/green chromis and 2 Springer's Damsels and they are pretty much gone. I'm actually really happy about this! I see none on the glass, as of today. There are some on the cyano, though. LOL! (I dare not disrupt whatever they are doing to it).

3. Clearwater Algae Turf Scrubber is on it's 10th day now. It's already got turf on it. Pretty happy with that... or should I be?

4. Got the UV Sterilizer where I wanted it finally. It's mounted correctly now.

5. I added a cheap Ozonizer to the tank, too. It, and the air drying beads, cost me around $90. I'm testing it for someone. I just need to get a reaction vessel setup so I can run it safely. My UV keeps the tank between 308 and 330mV easily... I'll run the ozone to get me to 375-400mV mark. Yes, I have always chased ORP numbers. (guilty)

6. I bought 153 lbs of dry/base rock, and around 70 lbs of tonga branch from David/Reeftopia. I would have picked up that wrasse if I knew it was for sale, when I was there. LOL (He just listed it today). I'm basically taking out all of my rock, and using this rock in the display. All of this rock has undergone about a week (don't remember when I got the rock from him) of a high flow saltwater bath, with carbon and skimming in the background. Next is seeding it up with bacteria (Brightwell product will be used... my first time doing that). I'll use the rock, I have in the tank now, later, after cooking it, and ridding it of all pests. Unfortunately this means my corals will take a big hit. All for the greater good, I suppose.

7. Lost the powder brown and the hippo to ich. The melanarus is MIA, too. All the others appear fine and fat. I watched that BRSTv episode on ich management and ich eradication, recently. Then I went and read the article on R2R about it. Makes a lot of sense, and I guess I've always just done ich management because I didn't like shortening the lifespan of the fish by using chemicals it may have never needed to begin with. Looks like my thought processes have changed... a bit. My QT has always been a month of inspection, then add. Usually, no chemicals. When chemicals were used, hardly ever was copper used. Though... I've always had some on hand, with copper test kits at the ready.

8. I'm getting a new return pump soon. The one I have is too flaky, for lack of better words. This pump is not putting out what it should, and it's touchy. I wish I could put a flow meter on there to see if it's actually doing what it's spec'd to do (or anywhere near that). I see that Sicce has a new DC return pump... may try that.

9. Eye-ballin' the newer ATI LED setups for my tank, too. They look great on video, but would really like to see several success stories before I take the plunge on something that pricy.

See! Just a few. ;)

Just a quick update... Kind-of

Ordered a new RODI unit. I have chloramines. Didn't know that, and a little embarrassed I didn't check that first. Hoping that this might be the source of my hair algae problem.

The only reason I'm ordering a new RODI is I broke the computer on my other one. I broke it while trying to upgrade it with a dual di setup and two chloramine filters. User error. :D Definitely wasn't the unit.

I should have the new filter setup on Friday. It's a 6 stage water saver setup from BRS, for the lifetime warranty (200gpd). I'll be selling off the dual di setup if you're interested. I already have one, so... :D

I also purchased the Smart Buddie RODI booster setup. The real estate on this entire setup is a bear, but I'm hoping it's more efficient than what I had before.

Saved a ton of money on these two items due to their fall sale and some points I had saved up with them. I think I saved like $70.

Oh, I also swapped the sump out, so the 36" Marine Depot/Trigger Systems sump is for sale too. :D

It's this one:

It's pretty cool, and only used it for a few months, but... I just need something bigger.

How's the turf scrubber working out, notice any difference in the hair algae? Did you ever get the Sicce DC pump? I recently got one but haven't gotten to use it, if you did how do you like it?

The turf scrubber is awesome but it’s currently in dry dock. I’m going to have to redo my entire rockwork due to algae issues. I’ve tried everything and the algae is still holding on for dear life. I may try my hand at negative aquascape since I have a lot of stuff to do it. My baby girl will be helping because daddy ain’t no artist. [emoji23] No, seriously... I’m terrible at rockwork. So, the turf scrubber is awesome and I can’t wait to get it back on there, but... I’m starting over. Chloramines definitely beat me.

Yes, I have the Sicce DC powered pump and it’s pretty awesome. I haven’t swapped it into the main tank yet, but I’m using it to cycle some rock in a big stock tank. It is as I figured it would be. Pretty great! The water change pump, that attaches to my python, works great too!

Oh, and just as a general update, finally got my new RODI with Smart Buddie hooked up. Not as fancy as my last one, but lifetime warranties are nice!

I have this directly tied to my sump and kalk reactor. Don’t know if it will work with the kalk reactor, but I can set the reservoir back up if it doesn’t. I can already see the difference. I’m wasting much less water with this setup. [emoji16]

Just a quick update...

I ordered some stuff called Reef Flux. I took 3 bottles of it to meet my needs. I dosed it last Monday, and first impressions were not good. The way it works is exactly like using fluconazole. I capsule for every 10 gallons. I used 30 of them (10 per bottle). You are to turn all filtration off and keep the skimmer off for a few days. I left mine off for 5 days.

The first few days proved worthless. The fourth day... okay! Seeing some of the "algae like substance" starting to bleach a little. I'm on the 10th day, and I can see my rocks again! Sweet!

I'm going to give it another week or so, then I'll do a big water change and turn my carbon reactor back on. It brings me great pleasure to see the "algae" dissolve before my eyes.

Took advantage of the BRS flash sale last week:

2022c98d9545e082ce8a881b389caba5.jpg

It’s a SKIMZ CM122. Hard to pass up the deal they had so I nabbed it.

This will be another test platform. It should hold up for quite awhile though. Right now I’ve been dosing BRS/Tropic Marin’s balling method to try it out, as well as the Jebao WiFi dosing pumps. I like that whole setup because it’s super easy. I’ll be moving it over to the nano in a few days.

Hope you’re all well! If I don’t get a chance, Merry Christmas and Happy New Years everyone!
