Good evening everyone. So I have decided to turn the 40 gallon into a FOWLR setup. Any thoughts? Any suggestions? I have a bulk head and a 10 gallon tank underneath that I’m not exactly sure how to set up. The guy I got it from also gave me a bag of bio balls. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

When you say you have a bulkhead, do you mean you have a hole drilled in the tank with a bulkhead in it, or just a bulkhead in your hand and no hole in the glass?

Inside overflow box is there 1 or 2 holes?

If one - that is your drain and you would run a pipe down to that 10g. If 2 holes then one would run from to bottom tank same as before. The 2nd hole would be for the pump returning water to the tank.

if only 1 hole then pump return would come over back of tank.

Thank you. It only has one hole. I’m going to share some pictures of a setup I just bought for 300 and you can let me know if I got ripped off lol. IMG_0207.png

Seems alright.

Just kind of ballpark - new...

The tunze ATO i think is around 80,
40 breeder can get for 60 or so from petco when they are on sell,
the overflow and returns probably 100 new,
heaters & pumps probably 150,
sump probably 150

so if you are hitting in the 50% of new range you probably good.

I didn't include the lights & stand

I can pick this one up for 400 depending on what you think the better deal is. This one has a sump behind the tank. Also any suggestions on where to get a ro/di system? IMG_0209.png
