I recently picked up a foxface and im just curious if its normal for them to change colors and flair up fairly offen. Mine swims around all nice and yellow looking happy then next I look he is in the corner with his spines up and his body is black then alittle while later back to swimming and eating algae.

Also waht do you feed your foxface? He is quickly deplinishing my algae I put in some Broccoli and he has been nipping at that alittle.

Sounds like your foxface is exhibiting normal rabbitfish behavior, part of what makes them cool. They're attitudinal. :D

As a herbivore, your foxface will appreciate green forage, such as nori, or other seaweed. "Formula 2" is a flake food for herbivores, if you can get him to eat flake. Just a suggestion.

I got my nori from HEB. Just find the oriental/asian food isle and it should be there. Make sure it doesn't have preservatives and stuff added.

Here is mine that I just recently added. He is about 4" long.

He has done a great job so far taken care of the bubble aglae. He also has been eaten the hair aglae, though I have to weed it down as close to the rocks as possible as he will not touch it when it is long and thick.

I have also started using Marine S.A.T. to see if that works with the hair algea. I have dosed the tank once so far.

Well since I just added the sps's I got yesterday he has not messed with them.

I watch him a lot and he has only picked at the algae and a few very small feather dusters. I have not seen him pick at any of my softies.

How long do you leave the Nori in the tank? I left it in overnight the night before last and he did not touch it. :( Nor did my yellow tang

Foxface fish seem to all have the same behavior of being shy and flighty. Mine I have had in my 180g for over a year now and it is as shy then as now. Mine will eat Ocean Nutrition spirulina flake food. Plus it eats PE brand mysis shrimp. Other words he's a hog. Everyone remarks how big he is. Mine can be the brightest yellow and the next I have to look real hard to find him cause he may be up in the corner of the tank black blending in with the tank background.

They do brighten up a tank though. Hopefully you can get your's switched over to some other food source once the algae is gone.
