FYI, for anyone that has their sump on the floor without insulation under it, there was a lot of heat in the ground still yesterday, tonight the floor in your house is likely to be colder and pull more heat out of your tank.

Never lost power here, and tank is fine, other than major bleaching or RTN of a little over half of my Hawkins echinata - no idea what happened there, but certainly not weather-related.

However, we did have a pipe burst in at least two places in the attic again. I thought this time was going to be different, since we had power and water, and left some faucets dripping, but same result as last year when we lost power and water. Apparently we're not the only ones - plumber can get to us Tuesday afternoon.

Outside pipes should be wrapped and have heat tape if they are not drained. This is what I did for my water main into the house. This is the heat tape I got, there may be better

Coiled heat tape around it and held tight with electrical tape. Only coiled since it was longer than the pipe section.

Then I wrapped it in foam insulation.

Then foil tape to seal it up fully and protect the foam from the sun.

Someone was telling me you can get indoor propane heaters that are safe. Seems like they would be perfect in some conditions. Maybe even backup
if you loose your heat. At least keep the room warm.

I don’t think that’s a real thing. Sounds dangerous.

There are a few rated for indoors. They use a catalytic burn usually so they don't make CO, but they put off a lot of humidity, eat up your O2, and put out CO2. I think mr buddy is one.
Yeah, indoor safe and has low O2 cutoff. Is not an open flame, it has a catalytic burner with a pilot to get it going.

Mr buddy is one. Many sites saying they are perfectly safe. Wouldnt use 1 except emergency because your using a propane bottle
that will run out.
You can get an adapter to attach to a 20lb tank. Or an adapter to use your bigger tank to refill the smaller ones. I have 4 new ones and 4 that I just been refilling.

Im having problemsBecause im running a 100 gal sump in the garage. Have 5 heaters running 3, 500 and 2 350s and cannot get my temps up.
tried adding another and tripped a breaker. Temporarily hooked the last one up where I my lights usually run, I m running a 1500 wt heater in the
aquarium room so if I go to propane I can use that circuit. Been thinking on how to move the sump indoors that would help.

Wrap the sump with blankets.

No wonder your heaters can’t keep up. Use this insulation board to completely cover sides of the sump. I would even put a tarp on sump when it’s this cold. If I remember correctly your sump is sitting ground level.

I would isolate the sump completely from the DT at night when the Temps get really cold. It's just a sump so you can just add a HOB skimmer into he main tank or something if your that worried about organic waste. Any bit of surface agitated = aeration of the water so most any tank is good there.

Oh, I'm sure we will have many more rounds of freezing weather. Just pray that it's we don't have freezing Temps with some kind of storm because the greater Houston area is far from set up for it. This global warming is real and super hot summers and super cold winters is what I consider now the norm.

I'm glad this round is over - lost couple of birds of paradise plants and that's about all.
