Tank set up for two years. Damsels were removed 1 week ago after mollies were acclimated to salt for 24 hours. This first batch of mollies included 1 male and 2 females. I was so encouraged by response of first group I acclimated 4 females and released them on Sunday. Only the male shows powdery looking white spot with raised scales. He is feeding and breathing with normal resperation. The only fish in this tank are fresh water mollies in full salt water for less than 1 week.

Nothing will be transferred from this tank until symptoms disappear..

PS: @second_decimal
Can you move this thread to fish disease & treatment forum. Curious what Humblefish thinks on this.

can you show pictures of the white spots?
@soymilk
One white spot only. It is located on left side midway back laterally & midway vertically.

When I saw numerous raised scales on left side, I removed molly from tank and will bring salanity back down to fresh water. This male Molly has been in salt water for less than 7 days.

PS: Not sure what raised scales and white spot are, but fresh water is dissolving it and I can see shallow depressions where scales are no longer there. This developed within 8 hours of first seeing spot.

Molly shows alert and feeding this morning. Quite a lot of adhesions are showing exposed skin enhancing bacteria infection. I also see numerous emerging white spots. As I have not seen ich in 10 years, I will use a tincture of iodine from “old school” medicine cabinet to sanitize water. I also have a 10% Pavidone-iodine topical solution which I considered using.

We shall find out how healthy his immune system is. I drained off half of 1G and added one quart of full strength salt mixture to bring his water closer to brackish.

@Humblefish
We have a mutual friend with PaulB. I have known of Paul since he was Airborne Calvary in Vietnam. I was a crew chief on Puff the Magic Dragon at the same time. We meant for the first time this past August at his home on Long Island. If I understood correctly, you had just visited him.
Cheers,
Patrick

Hi Patrick - I don’t think what you are seeing is ich or evidence of any parasites. It looks more like an injury that has gotten infected: Bacterial Infections

A broad spectrum antibiotic (e.g. Kanaplex) will likely bring the infection under control.

P.S. I have known Paul for many years, and even visited him in Long Island last summer where we did this video together:

Thank you for the vedio, Paul is quite entertaining & very unorthodox. I saw you laughing at comments of his.

@Humblefish
You are spot on with injury, then bacterial infection. In a separate tank, I lost mollies to Sally Lightfoot Crab and had removed the one in this 30G tank a few days earlier, but apparently, not soon enough.
