Well so far it's been a fail there's so little sargassum and was only able to catch a lot of ghost shrimp and what I believe to be a baby spider crab. This was at the jetty infront of rainforest cafe. I am going to go back in a little and stay there until like 8 or 9 pm

After all I caught one baby spider crab in the sargassum and in the jetties I caught one cling fish, a whole load of Blennys, a lot of ghost shrimp, some of these small clear fish, and these two crabs that I don't know what kind they are. So what do y'all think are the best jetties or spots to catching seargent majors, Atlantic spadefish, small puffers, seahorses, and all cool stuff like that? I just need some advice cause I've really had no luck thx!

At the dike I caught two porcelain crabs, so many ghost shrimp, minnows, two types of crabs which species I don't know and I caught a lot of those, two big fat blennies, 3 baby croakers, and a cling fish. I was hoping to find a pipefish but had no luck

That's awesome!! Any pictures?

Next time you want to go... hit me up a week or so before if you want some company.

What kind of tank is this stuff going in? A lot of the stuff down here is not reef safe

You will find pipefish right next to the grass on the shoreline.
Just try not to drag through the cordgrass please.

Try the jetties on seawall at night. They are all the same and produce the same stuff. Spadefish will hang out on the outside of the jetty. puffers are few and far between and I am still trying to figure out where and when to get them. The damsels are on the inside of the rocks usually in a calmer sheltered area you will usually just see them and scoop them up. Hope this helps!! have fun and happy collecting!!

Thx! Yea I've been trying to catch all of those cool things that people talk about but like I said no luck. It would be nice to meet some of y'all and collect together.I have several tanks, one for the fish and other livestock I buy, a Galveston tank, a seahorse and pipefish tank(don't have any that's why I'm trying to catch them),and many other tanks.Oh and what grass by the shoreline are you talking about for the pipefish?Any other advice on how to catch spadefish, puffers, and damsels like using a cast net or a siene net? Cause I have those... thx

the last time I caught pipefish was in the public boat ramp in freeport when the sargasm came in. There were pads floating right in front of the table people dress out there fish at. I would pull up a few every time I threw there. I have also pulled in a couple squid. My family was dying to keep it, but I am not equipped to take care of them. My favorite collecting is to get in waste deep water and scoup up pads of sargasm in a net, or throw a cast net over it. you never know what you will pull in. there are tons of those little red sargasm shrimps. There has not been much for sea weed the last couple years tho.
Chris85 is a great guy. He showed me the rock nems. I fear the recent shoreline sand project probably killed off a lot of them.

Bet hurricane Ike didn't help either. We used to fish around Anahuac for many years before and after Ike and since the bay took a direct hit, it really messed things up. Used to be tons of grass where the Trinity dumps into the bay and the water was nice and clear. You would see trout, black drum, sheepshead, and reds next to freshwater bass, catfish, carp, buffalo, and gator gar. Now there is no grass and looks like a mud pit. Yeah the fish are probably still there but it looks terrible. I am certain it will get back to what is once was eventually but I believe so much grass was blown out it will take a while.

I thinking about going down there and sorting through some seaweed soon. I'm also hoping to go in a month or so for more peppermint shrimp. I think that the anemones have been eating them after dark.

A lot of nems got burried under sand when they built the beach back up. The sea weed has been hardly existent for a few years now.

Okay, I definitely haven't ever seen that much. There was some last year though. Oh by the way the eyelash blennies are a pair lol. Next batch of eggs I'm going to try to raise.

I may very well join you. I'm not sure what tomorrow holds, so if I can head that way I'll let you know tomorrow
