Has anyone ever seen one for sale here locally? About how much was it? Why is it that this particular fish is typically pretty expensive?

I believe the cost is you can only get them from a specific area / time of the year so they get limited stock. But I read that they started harvesting them from a new area recently and they expect to get more stock and price to come down.

The reason they are expensive is they come from Western Indian Ocean and are usually in deep water or surge zones. They do not usually school and are typically found by themselves. They run around 1200 a fish right now. I have seen them for sale in Ocean life and Cinco ranch fish store. The Cinco Ranch fish store did have 2 about 2 weeks back. Beautiful fish.

I know this doesn't answer your question but I used to see them for sale in San Diego in the $700 range. i guess equates to $1200 here in texas since everything is so marked up.

Cinco Ranch fish store has Hybrid Gem tang and has 2 of them so it's not a pure Gem Tang. He hasn’t sold it in months. He has priced it at $1000. I would take Maytas Black Tang with Ich instead [emoji1787][emoji1787]

LOL tbh whenever I go to Asia, Ima go by those shops and pick up some nice rare fish and come back home with a semi happy wallet! lol that is actually churning up some very cool ideas! Tho lol
When I lived in Korea, livestock was super cheap. A plate of sps the size of your hand maybe cost $80 American. Pick up some clownfish for $6. Just super cheap. Dry goods, on the other hand, were super expensive. A $200 skimmer here was $800 there. However, you could buy the Chinese stuff for reasonably priced. It was junk, but cheap. All that aside, your electricity bill wasnt linear either. It was exponential. The more you used, the more expensive per watt it became. So basically, during the summer time, you would usually only run your AC at night to cut down on costs.
