Is anyone currently using this system? Any insight would be much appreciated. Thinking of running with this or trying to get a trade on a trident…

i used it for a while, didn't like it. everyone talks about GHL quality....meh, non-IP rated aquarium equipment, weak points in the design (probe port gasket/seal), interface from the 90's,s backwards logic. Sold it. Currently have an Alkatronic on order. You also have to "stack" your equipment, one leak will take out everything beneath it i.e. doser etc. I found myself taking it apart constantly to troubleshoot. For me. quality means i keep my screwdrivers to myself.

I had the alkatronic and liked it the most I did have a major issue with it. I upgraded the firmware exactly like they tell you to and the unit bricked. I then had to spend 350 with Coralvue to fix it. And it took them 3 months. I ended up replacing it with a trident and kh guardian. Khg was the first to market, no app, not as pretty hard to setup but it’s pretty damn accurate

So you’ve moved on from the alkatronic then… KH guardian I’ll be looking into that. I’ll probably just fence this bad boy on R2R…

Looks like that may not be an option….

since you had both, how do you feel the accuracy comparison stacks up between the Kh director and the Alkatronic unit? i have a calc reactor, wonder what the benefits are if any. seems more beneficial with dosing.

For the price I like the KH Guardian better is $499 and when he does the Black Friday sale he includes 10 months worth of reagents. Which actually seems to be lasting longer than that testing 6 times a day. Alkatronic has the sexy factor to it. Pretty package pretty app and actually the price per test is the cheapest if you buy the 4L jug. There is also a recipe to make your own reagent floating around out there. Testing wise as long as you regularly calibrate the probes and pumps on the alkatronic it’s pretty damn precise. There seems though there is more to go wrong on the Alkatronic and you have to send overseas or to coralvue to fix. Mine bricked with a firmware update that alkatronic refused to cover. Which has me a little pissed at them and when I got the unit back I sold it and kept the trident and khguardian

What did you need to troubleshoot?

reagent tube coming off, inline filter, ph probe seal leaking. connecting to the cloud base consistently.

the whole interface is straight out of the 90's, expecting a dialup squelch when it connected.....its 2021...they need a dire refresh.

Sounds like an awful lot of issues for GHL. I know several junkies who run them with no issues at all. Strange.

I've been polling owners on R2R apparently this thing is rock solid maybe his was a lemon. One guy posted the director up yesterday for trade and then pulled it off reef to reef to keep it....

My GHL equipment has been solid. Getting things setup can be a challenge for some, but Vinny is always around to help. He can remotely come in on teamviewer or other program.

Meh, I've run some of the older Apex (haven't tried the new stuff), full GHL for about about 4 months, nothing but problems for me. It's not intuitive, hard to decipher, hard to program, inconsistent, and prone to water damage due to its stack design. I wanted to like it, really did....but in my opinion, falling behind the other options available and relying on reputation only.

I'd understand if it was operator headspace but I literally work in the controls industry (it's in my job title). I deal with logic, speak in AI's and DO's, 4-20, 0-5V all day....i hope I'm a little more knowledgeable than the average user.

The best reefing decision I made this year was selling the whole lot and switch to Hydros. 100% floored at the ease of use, programmability. Really thought out, top to bottom plus you don't get gouged on accessories such as cables, adapters, etc.

It's done everything I wanted it to do and allowed me to add double (monitor two temp and ph probes) and triple (3 separate and independent leak sensors) redundancies into my setup. Full AWC setup, direct-drive LED's from the controller, SMS, email alerting, growing DIY community. Really impressed

Hopefully, full Hydros + Alkatronic will be a good add for my tank. Looking forward to setting it up.

This is my GHL experience....nothing but problems.....sorry, not impressed.....I think I can apply for an assembler's job there, bout opened everything up to troubleshoot.
