Meh, I've run some of the older Apex (haven't tried the new stuff), full GHL for about about 4 months, nothing but problems for me. It's not intuitive, hard to decipher, hard to program, inconsistent, and prone to water damage due to its stack design. I wanted to like it, really did....but in my opinion, falling behind the other options available and relying on reputation only.

I'd understand if it was operator headspace but I literally work in the controls industry (it's in my job title). I deal with logic, speak in AI's and DO's, 4-20, 0-5V all day....i hope I'm a little more knowledgeable than the average user.

The best reefing decision I made this year was selling the whole lot and switch to Hydros. 100% floored at the ease of use, programmability. Really thought out, top to bottom plus you don't get gouged on accessories such as cables, adapters, etc.

It's done everything I wanted it to do and allowed me to add double (monitor two temp and ph probes) and triple (3 separate and independent leak sensors) redundancies into my setup. Full AWC setup, direct-drive LED's from the controller, SMS, email alerting, growing DIY community. Really impressed

Hopefully, full Hydros + Alkatronic will be a good add for my tank. Looking forward to setting it up.

This is my GHL experience....nothing but problems.....sorry, not impressed.....I think I can apply for an assembler's job there, bout opened everything up to troubleshoot.

I have my 4th GHL 2.1 SA doser and it’s been amazing experience with all of them. By far the best doser’s I’ve ever ran. Not a problem with any of them. ReefBum, Matt Dudley, and other guru’s running Full GHL like you and no issues. Did you reach out to Vinny?

I've been using a KH Director since it was released. My first unit had to be replaced right at 1yr because a tubing inside failed leaking reagent. Fortunately it didn't ruin the doser that was sitting underneath it, but it is is a concern since that the units have no water resistance at all.

Alk monitoring - seems to work well, but it's "sensitive". I can test my alk with Hanna daily and there no change, but the KHD can drift up/down by .5dKH. Due to that I don't have it controlling my alk dosing even though I use the 4th doser head for that.

Bottom line: If you are considering/using a GHL controller, go for it. If not, I'd look at the Alkatronic first and maybe the trident.

So after much fussing I finally got this dinosaur going but it doesn’t seem to connect to my GHL very well I have to reload the page several times and it does not seem to play well with the iPhone app. I set it up via WiFi with a static ip. Anyone have better luck using LAN???

I tried working with it all three ways. The connectivity is just garbage. Even on LAN it’s trash. Those guys can suck it I went with the trident right there on my dash board and it never gives connectivity issues.

Just a thought. Have you ever though about reaching out on the GHL forum or contacting Vinny Altamirano (General manager GHL USA) directly? (203) 871-1194

Yes, i tried to contact them through the portal on the GHL website their customer support is lackluster as well. It shouldn't take several hours to try to get something like this to work. As I stated before they need to work on their ease of use and connectivity issues. If you can buy an apex and trident and have it setup and running in a matter of 1-2 hours (I'm including the calibration procedure for the trident) why waste your time? i spent way too much time trying to make this work and then have to deal with connectivity issues...

I think you should get the Apex and Trident.

On a sidenote I have another doser that is not wanting to connect to my GHL. Imagine that, I am working with Vinny to try to get it to connect but he treats me like I have no knowledge of how Internet connectivity or networking works. It looks like it’s going to be a long process for me

Vinny will get you up and running. Just give the guy a chance. I’d get you up and running easily if I came over there. Probably in about 10 minutes with that 2.1 SA doser. I’m just too busy right now.

Once you get it up they’re solid. I’ve had 3-4 of them and if they sucked I wouldn’t keep buying them.

one way or the other...you will get to know Vinny. It's inevitable...minimum a few dozen emails, support tickets. Great pic of him. it's easy to lose track of the human side of the business. nice to put a name with the face.
It’s insane to me that I have a Jebao WiFi doser that cost me $50 that I installed in about 30 minutes (after some trouble shooting since it doesn’t play well with the apple app) that gets the job done consistently. If wasn’t for the fact that I got the doser $200 and I trust that it’s going to be reliable it would be gone as well. There are far too many options out there to spend hours trying to get something that cost so much to work.
