I got a new anemone a few days ago and have had it in an acclimation box at the front of my tank where my Gold Stripe Maroon Clownfish usually is. Today I moved the anemone onto it's new (brand spanking new) rock and within 5 minutes the GSM started attacking it. I thought about putting the bta back in the acclimation box, but decided to research first. Apparently this is a part of the symbiotic relationship. I hope the anemone can handle it! Its pretty normal for them to (for lack of a better term) 'suck' on the tentacles of a new nem.
I've never seen them rip tentacles off though.
Hopefully it was only a couple lol

Video of attack!
Well, I'm trying to add the video, but it's in mp4 format, and I haven't figured out how to change it.

Oh yes, she was definitely ripping them off and munching on them. Probably just 2 or three, thankfully.

I don't believe it'll work when using Tapatalk @steveb can confirm that if that's correct.

You can upload it to YouTube and post the link once it's rendered.

Agreed, I have seen clowns nip at nems to acclimate themselves to it's sting, but never like this. There have been plenty of reports over the years of people having clowns being overly aggressive with their hosting and "love" their nems to death.

WOW  That poor nem.
Never seen that before, but I have not kept maroon clowns. That looked like a very intentional rip.
Personally, I would seperate them if that behavior continues.

Wow, she just went right up and ripped the tentacle clean off. I'd keep a close eye on her and if this behavior continues definitely might need to put her in time out.

You know, she's really good with the other fish. And I know she loves to have an anemone. I just don't understand why she's being so brutal. I'll try again in a few days.

Doing some reading into it and apparently it's not uncommon for larger clowns to do this. she may rip out a tentacle if she wants it to move because it's too close to where she wants to lay or has laid eggs. They will also do pull out tentacles that appear to be dying off similar to pruning. But since she moved the entire rock, I'd say she doesn't like where it was or that it was too close to her chosen spot.

I thought that was the idea, having an anemone in her chosen spot. I had a large anemone that she loved a couple years ago in this same spot that wandered off and disappeared. I've tried a few others since, all who've just disappeared. I've never seen this much aggression from her till this one. I'm stunned.

Maybe she's protesting the fact that you brought home a twin bed instead of a king. Judging by her size, that's like having to sleep on the couch.
Lol, I was planning on feeding it directly for a while until it got to a more appropriate size.

I have seen my GSM do that as well. Fortunately the nems were large so losing a tip or two didn't bother them. My Clarkii used to yank quite hard on one of my gorgonians - don't know if it was actually eating polyps or just mad, but the gorg was 2-3 feet away from the nems.

I guess they need to start listing clownfish reef compatibility as "with caution".
