Well I've gotten rid of the red cyno and have filtered out most of the junk left over...now I am growing green hair algae all over where the cyno was....and headed onto my corals...seems to grow equally as fast...still have high phosphates, but have been running phosphate sponge for about 3 weeks...and am about to change it out with fresh....I am physically taking most that I can out, but its faster than I am!! Any suggestions? I've looked and some of the specific hair algae chems but most look to be hard on everything else in the tanks.....was hoping macroalgae would take over and put all the rest out of a home....but so far not happening...pH is at 8.2, nitrates are still high but coming down with water changes, alk is 240, Ca is 400+/-, Hard is 425..have a set of 4 T-5s for lighting on the 50 gal tanks and set of 6 or 8 on 100gal tanks...may be leaving them on to long...probably 15+/-hours a day....kind of follows my own schedule....Growing all LPS and softies with lots of diff. zoas...still can't get SPS to grow without problems of one sort or another.....JT

"nitrates are still high but coming down"

This is your problem. Your nitrate is causing the hair algae and affecting your coral growth. I had the same problem before. Do you have maroalgae? I think the grape caulpera works well.
