Curious to see if anyone has ever removed the center portion of their gyre external magnet?

Seems straightforward enough.
Have you thought about cutting a U shape instead of halving it?

or maybe use a grinder and make a tunnel.
or maybe cut some plastic and put it under the magnets on either side so that the middle now has a gap under it? That gyre magnet is pretty strong so i would think it would still stick unless your dealing with a really thick tank.
