For the last few weeks I've been testing everything (alk, cal, mag, NO3, PO4) everyday and logging it, takes me about 30 minutes to do. I know I'm overdoing it but I wanted a months worth of information to make sure what I'm doing is on point. I use a hanna checker to check alkalinity. I like to keep my DKH at 9.3 and I've managed to keep it there, or so I thought! The other night I ran out of alk reagent, so I opened a new batch that was bought at the same time as the one I just ran out of. I go ahead and start the test like I normally do expecting the same result but to my surprise my alk popped up at 11.3 dkh. I did the test again and it still came up the same. Now I have to go buy another test kit to see which reagent was bad. If the past reagent was bad then I've been running alk super high for the last few weeks. I've had a few issues with new zoa additions which could be because of high alk. This frustrates me and I feel like calling Hanna and giving them my 2 cents. Maybe they'll have suggestions on fixing this without having to buy a different test kit. If buying another test kit is the only way, what other test kits have ya'll had luck with for alk? Salifert?

Check some else his water who has a Hanna checker too and don't ask upfront what his Alk is.
After the check you can compare the results and than you can swap the regents and see what the results is on his or your Hanna checker.

Thanks Diesel for that suggestion! It beats the hell out of buying a brand new test kit. Now to find someone that lives around me.

Had the full Hanna setup now I only kept the po4 tester. Salifert was more accurate IMO. The calcium checker always read over 100ppm higher than my Salifert and red Sea kits.
