Damn that sucks.. Glad you found it.

You going to drill some holes in the top of the sock area to act as an emergency overflow port?

For the pump stator windings, as long as the coating on the wrap isn't damaged you should be fine. You may need to replace the brushes tho. Get a bunch of those silica desiccant packets and put the pump parts in a tupperware with them for a couple of days to suck all the moisture out and then reassemble the pump. I have done this a few times with submerged pool pump motors and it worked like a charm.

Where do you get the silica packs from?

Yes I’m going to drill a bypass hole the builder chose to ignore from my drawings.

Yes I’m going to hook up the float switch to my apex.

Yes I’m going to run without socks over thanksgiving.

Kind of hard to see but it’s full of saltwater

Dunked all parts in ro/di water several times now. Very unnatural to dunk the stator and rotor...

The pump might be fine. Give it a good cleaning and see. Make sure you unplug it first though :geek:

You can buy it on Amazon or go to Home Depot or Lowes and look for DampRid. It's basically the same stuff.

Blown out with high pressure air, sprayed down with electronics cleaner. Blown out again and put in a plastic bin with damp-rid. Should have that clean fresh smell when done [emoji849]

If that doesn’t work, throw it in the dryer.? I can’t believe all that over some stupid filter socks 🙄 glad you got it figured out and you didn’t loose any fish.

Yes your gonna pick up a water sensor that would have prevented this?

$30 and you can program it to turn off the return pump when triggered.... it may be overkill but I have one on either side of my tank and one on either side of the sump just in case.

Reassembled the pan world external pump (left wet section off so I can run pump dry). Its running. A little noisy. Since the impeller is not in it I'm sure I'm getting some noise that wouldn't normally be there. But I don't have anything to reference it against to say yeah its more noisy now vs. nah it sounds about like all of them..

Did you pee on it? I hear that helps. Or maybe that's jellyfish stings. Best to be safe and pee on it anyway.

You can always avoid drilling the sump, by just running 4 instead of all 6. Just removed the last 2 and you will be on the safe side. You will know right away when you see water pouring down the last two chambers at a higher rate to clean out those socks. That's what I do, I don't ever run my socks at full capacity cause they clog up fast... So if you ever plan on going vacation just removed them all and let it be. Hope you make a strong come back.

Cheers!

Yup I was discussing leaving one sock out in the future with Travis. Definitely keeping them all out over the holidays.
