is there a nist traceable thermometer you recommend.

I just got the one that bulk reef supply sells. Used it to calibrate just about everything I have that can be calibrated.

so i switched over to an apex. i left the heater on the inkbird just to measure the swings


the temp would swing 2-3 degrees per cycle. seems excessive or am i just being picky.

the apex now has a .5 to 1 degree swing

I've read that it's good for your tank to swing a few degrees in the control cycle. It leads to hardier livestock that won't get stressed by small fluctuations. So I intentionally have mine swinging at least 3degF. This seems especially appropriate for Houston where the power isn't reliable. My tank is normally ~78degF but dropped down to as low as 72degF in the freeze and I had no issues.

you make a good point. I wasn't sure if there was going to be a big impact on the animals in the tank. When I lost power during this past storm, the tank dropped 4-5 degrees overnight

all i can say is after adding my apex, it seems like everything is doing much better. Its could be coincidental.
