I am to the point that I am ready to start plumbing the return on my 265.

I currently have a reeflo dart gold hybrid that I was planning to use but you know how it is.. space is at a premium under the stand.

So thinking of maybe going internal.

Here are some details to consider before choosing. I was planning on using part of the return from the dart to feed image1.jpeg image2.jpeg water through a UV sterlizer and 1/3hp chiller.

So if I go internal I suspect I would need two pumps.

You can look at the maxspect duo it’s super powerful and it has 2 outputs so it saves space! Not sure on the gph, cus your gonna need a lot.

I like the idea of two pumps. If one goes out you still have flow. I run two pumps on my tank.

Internal. Easier to clean, easier to replace. Realistically, you're dealing with maybe 8' of head pressure with the height plus elbows. Going with a 5x turnover rate, you should be fine with an internal. Get a boss mag drive and call it a day. Those things crank very nice pressure.

I don't know steveb....If you have the cash...I'd probably go with a Red Dragon or Ecotech Vectra M1.

If you're poor like me...go with Mag Drive 18 or 24. I'll be running a 9.5 on my 75/G. No doubt those pumps are tough.

All my mag drives have been through multiple builds...they don't die. lol.

There is so much variety in the market-I have been running the laguna pump in the previous tank and current tank-ultra quiet.

It is too powerful for my two giant overflows so installed a couple of gate valves to throttle it back.

I have all the apex gear so next I want to try the Neptune core pump just for the heck of it.

You have a link to the laguna pump?

I have this one-the enclosure comes off easily and an average size pump inside-these pumps lasts forever and very quiet.

You probably need the one below this model so lesser price;

Here’s the actual pump Steve-about the same size as mag without the heat issue and quiet

1300 to 1600 gph. I have the larger pump as I was planning on running a uv sterilizer plumbed into a chiller as well + originally I was going to put some taps for a couple of reactors if I needed/wanted to run them. But unless I downsize the calcrx I don’t think they will fit.

Vectra or varios would do nicely. If you wanted to spend that much. If not go with the tried and true pumps.

Nope. No money right now.

I have the brand new Reefflo Dart hybrid. I may have a mag 12 or maybe it’s 18 in storage.

I bought a Jebao 3500 for my 90 gallon (thanks again Steve!) to use as a stand-in until I could afford something better. I found however that it does a pretty good job on it's own. I like the idea of running two pumps but I think I'm going to have two pumps plumbed but only one run full time. I'm going to use the APEX to control the other pump as a backup. My other choice is going to be the Reef Octopus Varios 6 but I haven't decided yet which one will be the primary and which will be the backup.
