Well after moving half way across the country and crying a while after breaking down my 450G, my 28G cube isn't going to cut it.

A little history on me. I was/am a member of DFWMAS since 1998, had several tanks up to 135 there. 5 years ago we moved to Atlanta and I setup a dream in wall 450G. It was awesome and unfortunately I had to break it down as I relocated for a job.

Anyway I'm on Beaumont now.

We aren't sure how long I'll be here either though so I don't want to set up anything very big. Actually my wife won't let me set up anything huge until I can have another fish room :)

Anyway, A few options.

1) an Oceanic or AGA 54 gallon corner tank, I had a 92 corner about 10 years ago and it was one of my favorites but sumps and lighting tend to be big issues. The other disadvantage of this is that I would probably need to build a custom stand and canopy and the sump area is extremely difficult because of the odd shape.

2) a rimless 24x24x24 cube, several vendors, I'm open to suggestions. I would hang one pendant and probably have a stand made to match the cabinets in my house. The downside is this will be the most expensive option since the tanks are big $$ and I would have to have a good looking light pendant.

3) Same as #2 except not rimless and build a canopy to match the stand. While I would save some on the tank and lights the canopy would probably offset that so it's more just a look preference.

4) Just set back up my 28G and quit whining :) By far the cheapest, no sump, stand looks funny in our house, etc.

5) Others???

What would you do. I certainly don't want to say money is no object but I do want to get what long term will be the best even if it is a few extra bucks.

I like option 3, because I wouldn't want to be limited to what fish I can have that don't jump. But that's just me. Rimless is pretty but to me, so limiting in fish choices, it's not something I'd ever choose.

and I second the request for pics of that 450!

There are tons of pics on ARC and RC of my 450 but I didn't pay my host money. I will try to get them back up soon.

Here is a teaser. It was at the end of 08. I broke it down in Feb 09. Almost all of these were tiny frags when I got them. Some were 12" or bigger. you have to keep in perspective this sucker is 10ft long!

And a few of the fish, I had these all for at least 4 years

Back on task there are ways to cover a rimless that do not really look bad at all the main one using bird netting, I'll probably do something like that. I will not leave it totally open. You will lose fish that way. People who say they haven't either haven't been doing this long or are extremely lucky!

Here's an example

Love that Regal Angel.

I am also an Atlanta transplant to the Houston area. Went to school at Ga. Tech.

The cube idea sounds good. Personally, I like having a canopy. . .

what kind of mesh is that? where do you find it? and how is it being held on the tank? I'm setting up a 58 and this looks so much nicer than the egg crate that I used to use.

oceanic has a nice rimless aquarium...the 57-gallon Illuminata. i have been debating getting one, but i'm being patient and holding out for the larger rimless tank (187 gallons).

your 450 was sweet! love the bellus angel and that regal has great color.

Probably the oldest revive of a thread on here :) I'm back and a contibuting member now. Quick update I went with option 4 was in Beaumont for 2 years then moved to Richmond, VA for 5 then to Chicago for 2, then to Atlanta currently but as of next month I will be an official Houstonian for the forseeable future.

I have moved that 28G with me everywhere I have gone and just upgraded to the LED hood but honestly its been great and I have a pair of Tomato clowns in there that are turning 10 this year!

I am making the 14 hour drive with tank at end of May and have a favor if anyone is willing.

If I pay for a bucket of salt to your house can you make me up 20-30ish gallons of RODI saltwater that I can get from you (need to igure logistics of getting it to my house) so I can set my tank back up the night I get there. I will haul the livestock and rock in tupperwares with DC air pumps myself but I really want to avoid hauling spare saltwater across country if possible.

My new house is in Towne Lake in Cypress. Also open to alternatives suggestions if someone else has a better idea but fish store etc not great option as It will probably be like 7-8pm on a saturday when I get there and I'd really like to get it up that night.

There are others that are closer to you but I'm happy to help. I'm in Spring. I have enough 5 gallon water jugs to transport 30 gallons and am happy to mix the salt for you.

Hello neighbor I'm in Bridgeland. I can hook you up up on water as I keep around 300-400 gallons on hand.
