small dip net...found out that if you shine a flashlight into the water they all scatter making it harder to catch them....just dip you net between the rocks in the jetty and check your net with your light afterwards....we were catching 2-3 per dip

REMEMBER THAT YOU CANNOT SELL PEPPERMINT SHRIMP ON THE BOARD. IT IS ILLEGAL TO CATCH AND SELL LIVESTOCK WITHOUT A LICENSE.

SO COLLECT ONLY WHAT YOU NEED, UNLESS YOU HAVE MADE ARRANGEMENTS WITH SOMEONE ELSE TO COLLECT SOME FOR THEM.

THIS ISSUE HAS COME UP IN THE BST FORUM AND THE POSTS HAVE BEEN REMOVED.

They are best caught on the jetty right across from the Rain Forest Cafe. This is the best time of year,

It is looking like a good possibility for this weekend. My wife an I were thinking about going to galveston to hang out before it gets too cool to get in the water. Figured i could hit up some dinner then go hunting for stuff. I'll definitely let you know if we are going.

I went last night and after a couple hours only caught two. I think the biggest problem was the tide was out too far and there wasnt a lot of water to dip in. If I was into keeping rats I could have had all I wanted though.

I went out to the one across from the rainforest cafe and did not get any... I saw a few large rats and caught 1 small snail and about 10 very very small snails. I then wanted to check out the East beach and caught 3 very small fish and a crab... lol I have a few battle wounds, but my friend (Chris45) got real beat up. The waves were coming in very hard and would wash us off the rocks... lol it was a sight to see!!! We were out there from about 730ish to 1am. We had a blast but it would have been a lot more fun if we could have caught some peps. At the end of the night we went into Denny's and got some food. The waitress told us that it had rained earlier and the waves were really high and in fact she said there were a lot of people surfing around 5pm... here is the break down of our trip:
Gas 35 dollars
5 Gallon bucket 3 dollars
air pump 7 dollars
2 small fish nets 12 dollars
Food at Denny's 25 dollars

The experience of shrimping without getting anything but battle wounds - Priceless!

My suggestion is before you go check the weather and tide information...

One another note I was helped out by FIreEater, he called me back and gave me further information on how to get the peps.... I just wanted to thank him again and let everyone else know how helpful he was, Thanks FireEater!!!

yeah, it's getting a little late in the season. but since the water is still warm, you might get a handful. won't be racking up huge numbers though.

I'm still wondering where those little buggers go when it gets colder. I can't see a bunch a peps migrating across the Gulf floor without getting picked off right and left.

some will also migrate to warmer areas, such as the caribbean or other warmer tropical waters, although this is not the case for peps.

Holy Mackarel,

This entire thread blows my mind. I just moved to Galveston and have already seen a bunch of critters down at east beach and such, and today in my verts lab, I found out about finding H. Histrio, the sargassum, frogfish on the beach! Please let the weather get warm soon now!

Thank you for the education!
