I am having problems with my 90 gallon tank. All of my corals especially my zoa’s and palys are not opening and then turn white and die. My frogspawn and hammers are living but they are not extending. My torch and bubble coral seem to be ok. I have no nitrates and was told that these corals like dirty water. My question is how do I get a little bit of nitrates?

+1 on dosing. You could feed more as well, but fwiw dosing is cheaper solution

If only needing nitrate better to dose than feed. Easier to control without the extra phosp.

Switched to chemical grade potassium nitrate recently, some say it’s ‘cleaner’. Same thing, just makes me feel better.

What form does it come in? Powder? What concentration are you diluting it to?

I’m also dosing 20 ppm a day. The 6/13 is before I dose. Plus I’m feeding 6 meal a day. Deep sand bed is crazy

You can do it naturally and just add more fish. Better enjoyment imo. I used stump remover until my fish load was sufficient.

Most come in powder. What I do is boil rodi, add some powder (eyeball it), mix, add to tank. I’ve been doing this for some time so I just have a feel for it. Just start slow and work your way up. And of course test daily.

Yeah I just add more fish and feed more when nutrients are low.
