Water is couldy from cleaning front glass. Coralline is starting to take hold, but dinos really are the eye soar. Acros in the top are growing nicely, such as millepora and tortuosa. Flow from two jebao pp15s at lvl 3 intensity on wave 1. return pump is 550gph without head pressure. Par numbers attached during MHT5 period. Will create a build thread once this curse passes

I was super excited (not) to discover that I have dinos too. I didn't realize it because they look so different from the ones I had in the past, so they must be a different species. The ones I had before looked like blobs of tan snot, but the ones I have now look more like really bad diatoms. When I saw the video RR-man posted, I got to wondering, and yesterday I put them under the microscope and saw the tell-tale golden orbs wiggling around.

I also have hair algae and cyano, so somehow I'm going to have to raise my nutrients and lower them at the same time. Nitrate tested at 0 and phosphate at 0.018.

Good luck frank. Whats the game plan?

Definitely raise yours. Those numbers are very low if you don’t have a fuge full of Marcos. :)

Maybe add a bit more flow. I would honestly add more snails, 2-3 tuxedo urchin’s, and wait it out. Maybe feed slightly cleaner with LRS foods and no flakes or pellets.

I’m almost 3 months in now. No algae except cheato in fuge. No skimmer. No GFO. Light carbon twice. Dosed LaCI twice.

Just got my phosphates back down. Shooting for 0.05 - 0.09ppm. It got up to 0.6 ppm at it’s highest.

NO3 currently 12+ and not sure how high. Nyos is not accurate after 12+. I suspect in one week I’ll have undetectable level and need to dose which is what I prefer. That way I control what I want.

This was just now. 3/24/19 6:00pm with lights about to go off.

I'm seeing no magic bubbles in frag tank as of yesterday at end of photo period. Interestingly the cyanobacteria seems to be going away as well.

I think there may still be some in the sump but fixing to pull the 1µ filter sock and turn the skimmer back on this evening.

Dinos nearly 100% gone. Raising nutrients took a toll on one of my acros, but the rest are coloring up well. My skimmer has been off for a week and it worked very well. The chaeto grew into a humongous mat and turned deep green. The tank has gone from brown to green and red. Cyano has covered some of the lower rocks.

What I have learned:

Having a refugium makes a big difference. The pods and critters add biodiversity to the tank. I am almost scared to reach in and grab some chaeto, who knows what will pop out!

Raise the nutrients! I saw almost no progress until my Nitrate hit 20 and phosphate nearly .25. I introduced new fish and fed heavily with dense food.

If your skimmer is too efficient turn it off. I turned off my skimmer and i noticed a lot more progress rather than endless feeding.

Algae is your friend. Rocks are green and purple now, and i find it much better than brown and stringy!

My next challenge is not letting the dinos reignite, as well as starting to reduce the green algae. Thanks for the help everyone, I hope I do not have to battle these things again for a long time.

Agree, sometimes a system runs too clean. Mine always do, but I’m going on 4 months w/o a skimmer so it won’t happen to this reef.

I’ll see how long I can go.

Any issues with pH? I am kinda worried over the long term effects of not skimming

All gone! Cyano is covering some areas and coralline algae is growing on rock finally. My tank is cleared up just in time for Reef Currents frag haul!
