How could I forget this beauty the Achilles Tang. So 9 it would have been 10 but we lost the small yellow. Don’t know it quit eating then bloated and died very quickly.8 tangs including Blonde Naso, Purple, Blue-eyed Kole, Flamefin Tomini, Yellow Bellied Hippo, Pacific Blue, Sailfin, and a Yellow. Melanurus wrasse, Aiptasia filefish, Firefish, Bangai Cardinal, Black Ice male/ Mocha Ocellaris female pair, and a Kupang Damsel.
I have had 100% success knocking out dino with just raising nutrients to appropriate levels and waiting. And when I say "knocking out", I mean putting it into remission. Dinos are always in everyone's tank, it's just whether it manifests itself or not. Kind of like vibrio bacteria in relationship to STN. It's always there, but the corals can keep it off if they're healthy.Well you know how it is in this hobby! Just when you think you have things ironed out. Yep we have dinos. Got the microscope set up and diagnosed Prorocentrum which is good in a way and bad in another. This type does not leave the sand bed at night and go into the water column. This makes UV a less effective treatment option. We will be adding Sodium silicate to create a competing bloom of diatoms. Increasing temperature to 82 F and monitoring and maintaining nutrient levels. I remember when everyone wanted low nutrient and couldn’t get it. Now I have a too efficient nutrient export system.
Yea I am thinking I had two problems. One the nutrient bottomed out. At one point it was 0.0 phosphate on a HannaULR checker and 1.6 nitrate. Also it was a new tank with very low biodiversity. I am just now getting to the spirobid and pineapple sponge stage. Should be adding copepods and phyto tomorrowI have had 100% success knocking out dino with just raising nutrients to appropriate levels and waiting.
