So at the Christmas party I was talking to David from urban aquatics at the Christmas party and he said they got some in and it’s been Atleast a good 2years since I saw them last at a fish store, so I went by Sunday’s and picked one up, now here’s the part where I almost diddnt get one... they are tiny like really small, and I have a pretty fat convict tang, I know he will kill it, so instead of waiting forever to get another on, I built myself (with the help of my dad) a holding cage for him. It’s 22 in long, 5in wide and 9in tall. Now I’m guessing he’s gonna need to be in the for Atleast 1 month, so he can bulk up. I got some pics for the cage in my tank and the tang in there.

But yea just felt like sharing plus wanted to try out taptalk.

Very pretty fish, and you're right. You don't see them that often.

Nice find...yeah I have not seen one of those for a while.

Although small the atlantic blue tangs are a little aggressive so I think you are okay to release it. On the other hand, the convict tangs are more docile.

I don’t qt my fish I had luck with not quarantining them, I just don’t have the patience to and every time I do they everything dies on me. Well it’s not just the convict tang in there as well as 2 other yellow tang but they are the same size as him roughly, but just to be safe he will be in there for the rest of year.

I have a total of 6 tangs in all thanks at the house they’ve never seen a qt tang and have got Ich and survived, all you have to do is raise the temp and it works! But that’s just what I do and works for me.

Not trying to start a whole debate about to qt or not.

Good luck. Both times I have had one of these, despite a month in a QT, they and half the fish I had at the time died of velvet. I can't say for sure they brought it in, but it seems likely.

That being said, I can't wait to get another one for what will be my Caribbean tank. I saw lots of these when snorkeling in U.S.V.I. I even got a picture of a young bright yellow one, though at the time I didn't know it was the young of the big blue ones I was photographing.

David was telling me at the party that these tend to come to the trade in groups. He got a bunch of them recently, and there is a store on the north side that has had several of them lately as well.

Okay good luck Lucas hopefully it's a healthy fish...otherwise dream fish could become a nightmare fish pretty quick.:cry:

To a rig offshore... I am sure you can get them inshore during the summer just haven't found a good spot yet. I am pretty sure I caught one or two, just not for sure if that is what I caught because it was smaller than my little fingernail.

I have had tangs for many many years. I have always found that they are one of the easiest marine fish to keep. I have never found them to be ick magnets. It does help to have a large tank good quality of water and for some fish like naso tangs good water movement with highly oxygenated water. My house is humid enough without an air stone so I avoid Naso tangs. No white christmas here as well this year.
