As much as it pains me to say it....I believe some ich crept through. I’m sure of how it made it through but have decided to keep it to myself. This forum is not for trash talking so I won’t! Moving on....HELP I’m afraid that I move a fish to my 65 prior to noticing it on my spotted mandarin. 32 is a mixed reef with all kinds of coral, clean up, nems etc....65 is full of nems and fish. My question is obvious and please don’t fail me now lol, how do I fix this?
WITHOUT killing everything

Mandarins RARELY get ich. That being said, the best course of action is to make sure all the fish are eating well and your water params are good/remain stable. You can add Selcon or probiotics to the food too. Most tanks have ich but only end up with a problem in extreme situations (Stressed or sick/injured fish).

But back to the mandarin, it's likely that there is sand or other fine particles stuck to its slime layer.

QT (by definition, isolating and observing the fish) will not accomplish much if you have infected fish. You would need a hospital tank that you can medicate and even then, if you’re not diligent, some parasites could survive. Observing/quarantining new fish is a good idea in general, but if the fish is harboring the parasite (or any other pathogen) without showing symptoms, isolating the fish won’t do anything to stop it from entering your tank.
Not minimizing Ross’s concerns, but in my experience with marine ich, making the display tank as healthy as possible, keeping the fish happy and well fed and not stressed by aggressive tank mates, goes a long way to minimizing illness. A fish with a good immune system will usually not succumb to ich, even if it does become infected.

I had a healthy tank for years. No new fish. Last year I decided to introduce an Achilles. It came from another tank, with no signs of sickness. Evidently my tank had ich. It spread like crazy and killed all but 2 of my fish. I lost a ton due to ich. Be careful!

Was there a UV sterilizer on that tank at that time???

Does that work?

Safest way to treat in tank ! if you get a good one set up you will be able to zap most. It's good to have to manage your issue. Best solution is to take your fish out to quarantine. If you want to fully eradicate

I get a bit of ich now and then. Rarely anything serious. I just put the tank temperature over 80f for a week and go from there. Sure works for me.

There’s two ways you can go. You can try to manage it by feeding nutritional foods and boosting their immune systems. You can run UV during this time.

Or you can medicate all fish outside the DT (in another tank) and leave the DT fallow (fishless) with temps at 82-84 degrees for 4-6 weeks. 86 degrees will get it in 2 weeks if you have a FOWLR system.

86 degrees: 2 weeks (FOWLR only)
84 degrees: 4 weeks
82 degrees: 6 weeks

The 72-76 day fallow period still works, but that’s a crazy long time to wait when we have new data. :)

Mandarin's are hard to qt due to their dietary needs. And if you can't qt the mandarin, there's no point in qt'ing anything else. I would just try to manage it by keeping everybody healthy, running a UV and keeping your water params good. Ich is not a death sentence.

But as noted above, mandarins rarely get it due to their slime coat. Therefore, maybe it was a damaged scale or something else that you saw?

Yea I’m hip to the Mans needs for sure...had him for over a year. He has plenty pods roaming around and I have actually successfully got him eating with the rest of the tank so he can be QT’d however I prefer not to do that. I do have him in a QT floater in the same tank to keep him away from the flame angel who seems to be the bully of this tank! I really appreciate everyone’s help! Love my fish faces lol
