My daughter and I saw so many of these in the surf in Galveston. I have seen them before but never been able find what they are in any of the marine data bases. Can anyone ID them. They are about the size of a quarter. B8165724-69FF-4350-9FFE-013E097B491B.jpeg C0F742D4-C7BC-4B19-A74A-41F8723494C5.jpeg

I have no idea but long time no see! Hope everything is well..

@chris85 or @Reefahholic or @reefling or @CBBSteve any ideas?

I have a thread or post on these a while back. They are very chill little fish. They stay low by the edge of the rocks in a tank. Mine died within one week. Been looking for another one. Haven’t seen one for months! Great find!

Go to the thread...almost that time of year. I posted about these in there towards the last 20-40 pages.

Ok, I’m frothing for a few of these little fish now. Going tomorrow to catch a few hopefully. Where were you at exactly?

I love these little guys, although I can’t comment about them longterm.

I have never seen these any larger than about quarter size. I’m still not sure of the proper name or if they can actually get bigger, but just have never seen a larger one.

I know they like jetty’s, pilon’s, boat ramps, and concrete areas. I’ve caught them a few times in the last 10 years, but only tried to put one in my tank one time. It died within a week, and I’m not sure what caused his death.

If I saw one for sale in a store it wouldn’t appeal to me, but because they’re local and I got to witness it’s humble personality and how it hung out lower near the edge of my rocks- I really like them.

We were at Galveston state park. My daughter, love this girl, did her own research and came to the conclusion that that are Sheepshead Fry. She even showed me the video for positive ID. We were hoping for some sargassum sea weed finds but absolutely none was at the beach.
