Got this from a LFS that had all but killed it. Anyone? It’s some type of torch but the tentacles are really short. 4acd077b898378022454c7148df21615.jpg

Yep, they grow short with multiple heads.

Is the last photo a representation for the skeletal structure of all? If so then these are not what’s depicted the heads are more round like a frogspawn when the flesh is pulled away.

No. If you do a Google image search, or search on here, for that matter, you'll find pics and articles. I posted one here last summer or fall.

Plus, there are a ton of "hybrids" (aka "mutts") in the euphyllia we see today.

I wouldn’t say all. There’s so many different species. The pictures I posted above are from a species from the Great Barrier Reef.

What defines a hybrid as a mutt?
Not all hybrids are mutts. An intentional cross between two specimens, a designer coral if you will, that has been accepted by the industry (or taxofied by the scientific community) as a separate organism, would not be a mutt. But there are so many random, unclassified euphyllia hybrids (that some sellers even give made up names and huge price tags), that when you come across something that doesn't quite fit the description of a frogspawn, hammer, torch, cristata, etc, it's likely to be a mutt.

IMO, they’re all just coral. What may be trash to you might be treasure to the next reefer. I can find value and beauty in all creation.

I don't disagree, however Mitchell asked about an ID, and you asked how I determined if something was a mutt. Those were the questions I answered above.
