Yes, but you may have to pay gem tang prices until supply can catch up with demand, which may be a while. Plus I think the captive bred ones are normally sold at a pretty small size, which could be a problem if you're trying to add one to an existing group of tangs.

Dang it. I need one or two more. I’ve been holding off because I couldn’t justify paying $70+ for a fish that normally costs half that. I played myself.

Yeah, the law appears to be more about anti-aquariumism (not that that's a real word) than conservation, because it's still ok to go there and kill as many tangs as you can, just don't dare to try to keep one alive and teach your kids about the ocean.

I can hook you up with one.

I got a trio from Tony a while back - I have 6 tangs already and need to lower bioload.

I don't think its permanent. They still have follow up environmental impact studies to do. The previous studies did not support the activists claims of dwindling numbers in the collection sites studied, they just have a louder voice than those who were against the closure of the fishery. My guess is it will be closed 1 1/2 - 2yrs and then they will slowly and selectively start to re-issue permits, but with very strict guidelines and very limited quantity as to who those permits are issued to...when (not if) it re-opens it will be a completely different fishery for sure. The economic impact in Hawaii and its locals is too big for them to indefinitely issue a complete and permanent shut down. Thats just my .02

Some of our beloved "Hawaii" fish will still pop up on the market thanks to the Christmas and other close neighboring islands that some fish can also be found...problem for the time being with that is still flights. There are no flights into Honolulu from the Christmas Islands right now because of Covid.

Until then, I'm thankful for the few captive breeding fish programs that we do have.

Its not just YT's. Chevron, Achilles, Yellow Eye Kole, BT to name a few.

But this is still legal.. Kind of hypocritical...

For sure, its also flame wrasse and gold flakes...thankfully a few of our favorites like the achilles can still be sourced elsewhere. Glad I decided to hang on to my BT though, for the time being it just tripled in value LOL!

Thanks! I'm going to guess none of them are in the 2-3" range though, right?

I wouldn’t say that for sure. Gotta remember the locals there think fish eyeballs are a delicacy. [emoji2961]
