Yes...what numbers are you guys getting when you mix up to 1.026 for both regular Instant Ocean and Reef Crystals.

I'm having to supplement a lot of Cal and Mag to keep my reef on point with the regular IO. It's getting pretty annoying so I'm thinking about switching over to Fritz or something else.?

Can somebody also list the parameters for Fritz @ 1.026.?

I use reef crystals, and when I have my daily water changes up and running, per an ICP test, all my parameters are on point. Just have to dose alk and calcium daily and I'm good to go.

RC/IO is good for small water changes since it has really high DKH (above 11). When you do a big water change (20-40%) it screws up all the water parameters.

I would not use this salt if I'm doing large water changes especially if I have a smaller tank (under 100/g). Probably go with red sea or some other brand.

Cody, where are you keeping your Cal, Mag, and ALK? I would suspect high since you’re using RC.

I thought about switching to RC since I like higher Cal and Mag. Would still need to drop the Alk with acid. I’m honestly tired of messing with acid.

I think I’ll just find a saltmix closest to my target parameters and pay the premium price even though BRS said it’s not much more.

I keep mine at pretty normally levels if I'm doing daily water changes. Cal 400-440, alk 7-8, mag 1350-1450. With the daily water changes not exceeding 3%, everything stays on point.

Having said that, I haven't had daily water changes for the last year and parameters fluctuate more due to the dosing pumps. Much less stable without the daily water changes.

I just do a large water change when I feel like the tank will benefit from it. I’ll just match everything perfect. Especially the ALK, Salinity, and Temp.

Gotcha. If I was using that method then I probably wouldn't go for instant ocean or reef crystals either.

Yeah, I need a different saltmix, but would rather take your approach with 3% WC’s daily. Too bad I can’t implement that in my apartment.
I did it in my apartment. You need a patio though. Build a decent looking wood structure around your water storage, run one line of RO tubing under the rubber threshold (assuming there is one) of the patio door, run the tubing along the trim with wire holding nails, and have the discharge water run down the washing machine drain. It really just depends on the layout of your apartment. Mine just coincidentally was set up perfect for it.

With IO alk was 10.3, cal 360, mag 1200. Reef crystals all 10.4, cal 400, mag 1300. I switched to brightwell and been happy with it. Alk 10.0, cal 440, mag 1400

Yep...here's what I've always noticed when I started to pay attention. :tape:

Cal is low for me...I like my Cal at 450.

Mag is low for me....Run higher at 1400-1440

When I do a 40/G water change... my Mag will drop from about 1440-1460 to 1300.

Cal drops by 50ppm or more too.

Here's why I started running higher elements. If it's working for WWC....it can't go wrong for me.

WWC parameters: (FYI....pH is low from CaRx.)
