Hello everyone. Besides the fact that it was hot after the storm and no power. Just wanted to let you reefers know that anyone who runs low end power heads and no external pumps and LED lights, my 800W inverter ran my whole tank, 60g It ran my desk top and my tv with a fan also. But the heat is what caused my issues. Whole nother story, but I just ran the inverter to my truck battery with my truck running and no problems...

I ended up using a $40 inverter that works with Ryobi power tool batteries once my bigger battery backup died. If you already have some batteries around the house that you regularly keep charged, it's dirt cheap to get an inverter, and even the smallest power tool batteries are 40wh or so, so they will run a single pump for an hour at least (which might be all you need for oxygen in a pinch). And you can just pack then all in a bag and charge them somewhere that does have power. Not recommending as an only solution, but if you have a bunch of tools with batteries, might as well have a way of getting that power out of them!

I have return pumps plugged into a UPS that i swapped out the little 1 amp hour battery with for 18 amp hour batteries. Lasted around 8 hours by turning the return pump all the way down.

If you add a larger battery to a UPS make sure you do not run it near max and/or make sure it has a fan and proper heat sink inside. Some UPS's just add a block of metal to parts that get hot and count on the battery dying before they overheat and fry.

I always keep 1 or 2 gallons of water in plastic containers frozen incase my A\C goes out. You can float in the sump incase of an emergency... redundancy... if power goes out, generator dies, A/C or what ever it's my back for my backup for my backup.
