we will see.... i have a large phytoplankton colony i am growing in 2 liter bottles.. when the culture is dark green you harvest it. I usually pour 1/4th cup of bleach inm the bottle, and rinse it out reall well. I accidentally grabed a bottle that had bleach sitting in it for a day and poured it in my tank. It was stillkinda green, so i dont think the bleach is strong anymore.

this was about 6 hours ago..

all the inverts are fine, pods, xenia is pulsing, fish are swimming, snails are snailing...

i dont think anything is gonna happen but i will keep you posted..

last time i had something bad happen the effect was immediate. I got a crack in a submersible pump and the water flooded the moter... the motor gunk (copper, oil, etc) killed everything like snap..

oh well.. i was just counting my frags.. i got over 85 now...

i don't know if it would help, but i would probably run some carbon on the tank just to be on the safe side.

Hydrogen peroxide H2O2 is the oxidizer of choice
with inverts. It kills fungi, algae and bacteria as well
as bleach and is less dangerous.

Bleach

Commercial bleach (i.e. Chlorox) is not hydrogen peroxide but approximately 5% to 6% sodium hypochlorite. I would suspect that the impact would have been immediate. Therefore, I see no reason to make any adjustments. Activated carbon can convert chlorine (from the chemical) into chloride but I see no reason to use activated carbon at this time.

Hell, at this point toss in a couple of tequila shots, your guys have had tough run of it.

While you're at it, toss back one or two or yourself.

See ya at the frag swap, I cannot wait to see what you show up with.

Tequila

Tequila shots?

I use it personally to kill germs.

warm and fuzzy

Darrin, are the corals "warm and fuzzy" after the tequila or after the chlorox?

In my early days of keeping marine fish (late 1970s), I bleached corals with chlorox so I could maintain a "hospital-like" environment in my tank. I had an undergravel filter with dolomite gravel, an outside filter with carbon and filter floss, no protein skimmer, regular output lighting. Perhaps the only thing in common with my early days is that I still use Instant Ocean.

early days

Hey Mike

Was your tank stainless steel framed slate bottom in the "early days" too?
Did you stick your fingers with the spun glass filter floss?

Back to the clorox thread, if it ain't broke don't fix it. :D
