I happen to notice this today. It is in a part of the tank that does not get a lot of light. If it is a sponge that is thriving I might get one of those bright orange ones and have a sponge garden in the rain. I have never had luck with sponges before.

Cryptic Sponge, little different than your bright orange sit in the sun ones. Need the same sort of nutrients though.

Ok so the orange ones like the sun? Thanks for the info.
No sorry, just meant ones that grow on top of the rocks rather than under. Cryptics require cryptic zones of very low flow, almost no light and high nutrients. The colored ones are a bit more robust and grow out in the open and need a ton of food to filter. Some blue and purple ones are photosynthetic, but are generally encrusting types. Also, the more color the more toxic they are and can be detrimental to the tank if they die.

Ok ..thanks for all the info. I love orange so might try an orange one if I see one around. Put it in a well lit spot. Just have to remember to toss it if it starts to die to protect the fish and corals from toxicity.
