Bought a juvenile red coris wrasse and was wanting to qt it since it has just a slight bit of what looks like either fin rot or bite mark on its top fin closest to his mouth . I've heard wrasse are very delicate when it comes to copper so I was going to use cupramine and take about a week to reach therapeutic level. Was there anything else you would recommend dosing in addition to/after copper treatment is done? I have metroplex but wanted some more input on any other medication I may need.

Get it eating first. I can’t really see anything from pictures.

I would get API General cure (praziquantel & metronidazole).

Once fish are eating I dose the water and their food with general cure.

I use chloroquine phosphate in place of copper. But it’s impossible to get right now.

@Humblefish
Also chloroquine phosphate can't be used with Wrasse per this chart: Fish and Treatment Guidelines (with chart)

Another really useful chart is:

I agree with @steveb, get the fish eating first unless it looks like it's not going to make it from a very big issue like Velvet.

Get it eating + make sure the mouth is OK before exposing to copper. If the mouth looks infected, treat with Furan-2 + API Triple Sulfa (or Seachem Sulfaplex).

There is limited data on treating true Coris Wrasses with Chloroquine. Both Red Coris Wrasses died here: Chloroquine Phosphate Treatment - Which Fish

So, I would only treat with Cupramine or Copper Power once you get to that point.

I have a Macropharyngodon, Halichoeres chrysus a Halichoeres melanurus, a Choerodon fasciatus and a Cirrhilabrus aurantidorsalis that all made it through CP. So I’m not sure I totally trust the list.

But if @Humblefish recommends against it I would follow that advice.

Didn't realize Wrasse could handle CP based on what I sent.

Is 10mg/gallon enough to remove parasites? What kind of time period would be needed if doing a low dosage?

Ok I had did a minimal dosage of cupramine, 6 drops, but I will do some water changes and add a carbon filter since you recommend waiting. I dont see anything on its mouth and the lfs doesnt really have a qt routine other than holding for a day or 2. I will work on getting it to eat, I currently have mysis and phytoplankton, but I was reading I might have to try other foods. Here's a slightly better photo, it's not very noticeable unless your looking for it but id rather be safe than sorry if it is fin rot or something else

Thank you all for the quick replies and for all the valuable information. it didnt have an issue with the frozen mysis and started eating as soon as I fed it. I will monitor it these next few days to see if there is any fungal on the mouth or if that small rot gets worse. Should I go ahead and start dosing the general cure now or wait to see of anything else arises first?

40mg/gal (which is 10mg/L) is minimum therapeutic. 30 days if using just 1 QT or 2 weeks if you can transfer to a second observation tank.

Basically, copper will irritate any redness or inflammation. But if the mouth looks OK and the fish has begun eating, you can begin raising the Cu level.
